Jeffrey R. Hartquist

Jeffrey R. Hartquist

Funeral Director

Jeff was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was raised in Pipestone, Minnesota. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota where he received his B.A. Degree, majoring in Business, before attending the University of Minnesota where he received his B.S. Degree in Medical Science, majoring in Mortuary Science. Along with his license in funeral service, he is a licensed insurance agent, specializing in funeral burial insurance.


He began his vocation in the Twin Cities, Minnesota area. In 2004, Jeff joined the family-owned funeral home with his wife, Sara, and moved to Luverne, Minnesota. In 2013, Jeff and Sara purchased the family business from his parents, Randy and Cindy Hartquist.


Jeff and his family are active members of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne where Jeff has served on stewardship ministry and participated in bell choir. He is a member of the Luverne Lions Club and the Luverne Rotary Club, and he has served on the Luverne Chamber of Commerce Board and the Luverne Area Community Foundation Board. He has been very active in the Minnesota Funeral Director's Association holding numerous positions including serving as its President in 2016-2017. He still remains active in the association serving on the legislative committee. He also serves on the University of Minnesota Mortuary Science Department Advisory Committee and continues to promote the profession whenever and wherever he is able. He and his wife Sara have three sons, Henry, Benjamin and Graham.

Lewis Epple

Lewis Epple

Funeral Director

Lewis was born in Waconia, Minnesota and was raised on a beef cattle farm in Montrose, Minnesota. He grew up there, loving the outdoors and spending time with his two brothers and sister. Lewis was raised in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod and attended Mt. Olive Lutheran Grade School in Delano, Minnesota and West Lutheran High School in Plymouth, Minnesota. While he was a student at West he was a member of the traveling choir. He enjoyed visiting the many WELS churches in the area and meeting new people every Sunday. Lewis also worked for the Three Rivers Park District on the west side of the cities throughout his high school and college years. He worked there as a seasonal carpenter’s assistant. While there he did fun/odd projects, worked with the full-time carpenters, and learned how to use many different tools and techniques of the carpentry world.


In October of 2012, Lewis was united in marriage to his wife, Jenna, and they lived in Maple Grove, Minnesota while they both finished up their schooling. In May of 2013, he graduated from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis with a B.S. Degree in Medical Science, majoring in Mortuary Science. In the end of June 2013, Lewis and Jenna moved to Pipestone to be members of the Hartquist Funeral Home family. Since that time, they have bought a home and filled its bedrooms with four beautiful little girls! They spend their free time at home, usually, enjoying their time together. They also head to the Twin Cities to visit their families when they can. Lewis still enjoys some amateur woodworking and nurturing a bit of a green thumb with a plethora of house plants and a garden in the summer time. Lewis has truly loved becoming more and more connected with the community of Pipestone and the surrounding communities as he serves families where he is needed!

Rich Stangle

Rich Stangle

Mortuary Science Student

Rich was born in Hastings, Minnesota and was raised on a small family sheep farm with many other animals including his brother. Rich and his brother spent many days rough-housing on the farm and in the house. Rich enjoyed helping on the farm with his family. After the work was done Rich and his family could be found playing many different sports as a family from basketball, football to baseball in the back acres. After graduating from Hastings High School in 2002, Rich attended the University of Minnesota, Crookston where he played football and received his bachelor degree in Business Management. While attending college Rich met his wife Theresa and after graduation they were married and moved to Rochester, Minnesota so Theresa could continue her education in Physical Therapy. After Rich’s wife completed school in Rochester they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota where Rich held positions for Pipestone System and Pipestone Area Schools for many years before pursuing the opportunity to become a Funeral Director with Hartquist Funeral Home through the Des Moines Area Community College Mortuary Science Program. 



Rich and his wife Theresa are very active in the Pipestone community attending church at St. Leo Catholic Church, Rich is also a member of the Pipestone Fire Department while his wife owns her own Physical Therapy practice. Rich and his wife love to spend their time together with their four wonderful children, Eleanor (11), Vera (8), Gloria (6), Otto (2) doing many different things from renovating a camper, wrestling matches in the living room, to crafting art projects and riding bikes around town. Rich lost his Father at the age of twenty-one and was grateful for how the funeral service was so caring and helpful during that time of loss. That experience is what motivates Rich each day to be there whole-heartedly to each family that he serves.

Becky Rieck

Becky Rieck

Mortuary Science Student

Becky was born and raised in Pipestone, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm with her two sisters surrounded by horses and participating in many activities such as dance, gymnastics, tennis, track, 4-H and FFA. She also spent time showing horses and sheep at the County and State Fairs. After graduating from the Pipestone Area High School in 2013, Becky attended college at the University of Minnesota in Rochester, later transferring to the University of South Dakota. In 2017 she graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Addiction Studies. After working at a residential inpatient treatment center for several years, Becky felt her heart pull her towards funeral service. She is currently enrolled in school through Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Mortuary Science Program on the path to becoming a licensed funeral director.



In September of 2017 she married her husband Tyler and they welcomed their first boy, Riley in 2019 and their second boy, Mason in 2020. They live in Pipestone in a house that is decorated with Legos, dinosaurs and laundry, with their two dogs and one spoiled cat. In their free time, Becky and her family enjoy camping and spending time outdoors. Tyler and the boys can usually be found with fishing poles in their hands while Becky has a book in hers. Before life got busy with kids, Becky loved to travel – visiting places abroad in Paris, Egypt, Nicaragua and bouncing between Washington State and Maryland to visit her sisters. She is excited to work with Hartquist Funeral Home to provide the help and support to her community’s families that Hartquist once provided for her in 2014 when she lost her father.

Stacey Haubrich

Stacey Haubrich

Adminstraive Professional

Stacey was born in Pipestone where she was raised and attended school. She attended Moorhead State University and then moved to Buffalo, MN and worked in the office at Centra Sota Cooperative. In 1988, she was married to Tim and lived in Monticello, MN for one year before moving back to Pipestone. Stacey was employed at First Farmers Merchants Bank as a teller and proofer and after a few years stayed home to raise their children. In 1997, she began working at Hartquist Funeral Home for Randy and Cindy and later Jeff and Sara. 


Working there felt right at home as she lived in that funeral home for the first ten years of her life as it was her dad’s funeral home (Lindquist Funeral Home) until 1984. Besides working at Hartquist, she enjoys going to the lake in the summer and traveling, especially to her children’s homes; Josh and Erina in Columbia Heights, MN, Claire and Eric and their two children in Sioux Falls, SD, and Jake in St. Louis Park, MN. When they are home, they attend Cornerstone E Free Church and stay busy going to all the different events in town. Recently, she has had the privilege to mentor single women through Atlas for Life, a Christ based mentoring program. 


She has many roles at Hartquist Funeral Home which include office work, helping prepare for funerals, working the funerals and visitations, etc. It has always been such an honor for her to walk alongside families while preparing the funeral for their loved ones.

Wanda Jarchow

Wanda Jarchow

Administrative Professional

Wanda was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa and grew up on the family farm west of Ellsworth, Minnesota. She attended college in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and in her early 20’s relocated to New York State to work at the Walter Hoving Home, a Christian drug and alcohol rehabilitation program for women. She would move to Southwest Virginia and establish a CASA program which trained guardians ad litem to advocate for children in abuse and neglect situations. She returned to Minnesota and worked at the Alpha Center/National Abstinence Clearinghouse in Sioux Falls. On July 13, 2000, Wanda was united in marriage to Mike Jarchow. Wanda loved being a stay-at-home mother for several years with their six children and also handled the bookwork for her husband’s various business ventures. After the children were in school, Wanda began helping out part-time at Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne in January 2015.


Wanda is a member and involved with Living Rock Church in Luverne. She is also active in serving through Rock The Edge, #Luv1LuvAll, Luverne Music Boosters, and the Luverne School Counselor Advisory Council. She enjoys staying busy keeping up with their children’s school and college activities.


Wanda sees working at Hartquist Funeral Home as a ministry to families in their time of loss. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside all who are a part of the Hartquist Funeral Home family.

Randall G. Hartquist

Randall G. Hartquist

Funeral Director

Randy was born and raised in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1970 with his B.S. Degree in Medical Science, majoring in Mortuary Science. During this time, he married his wife, Cindy. Randy has been active in funeral service throughout his years and has served on many positions within the Minnesota Funeral Directors Association, most recently serving as the Southern Regional Director.


He is an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where he has chaired various committees, served as an Elder, twice served as chairman of the congregation, and sings in the church choir. Within the community, he has served on many boards, including the United Way, Pipestone Chamber of Commerce, Minnesota West Community and Technical College Advisory Board, Past President of the Pipestone Band Board, Past President of the Hiawatha Club, Pipestone Performing Arts Board, and Past President of the Pipestone American Cancer Society Board. He annually chairs the "Love Lights A Tree" fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. He enjoyed his ten-year membership in the Opland Singers, and he is a member of the Kiwanis Club. While he served as Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis, he organized and chartered Pipestone's Golden K Club. He has lifetime memberships as a Vietnam Veteran in the Pipestone V.F.W. Post #3814 and Michael-Boock American Legion Post #6 where he is a past Post Commander. He and his wife Cindy have four children.

Cynthia C. Harquist

Cynthia C. Harquist

Certified Pre-Arrangement Specialist

Cindy was born in Chamberlain, South Dakota and was raised in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge before being married to her husband, Randy.


She is an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone and is active in the community, focusing volunteer efforts on the Pipestone Enrichment Foundation. She is also a member of Chapter C PEO and the Hiawatha Club. She is on the Board of Directors of First Bank and Trust in Pipestone, and she currently serves on the City of Pipestone Charter Commission. She and her husband Randy have four children, nine grandsons and three granddaughters.
