He also attended country school through the 8th grade after which he helped on the family farm until March of 1945 when he enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged on May 22, 1946 at which time he returned to the Jasper area. On December 31, 1946 Andrew married Irene Debbaut in Minneota, Minnesota. They remained farming in the Jasper area until 1951 when they moved to a farm near Balaton, Minnesota. They farmed until Andrew’s retirement in 1984 when they moved into Tyler, Minnesota. Irene passed away in September of 1996. Andrew moved to O’Brien Court in Tracy in 2004. In December of 2007 he became a resident of Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He resided there until his death on Saturday morning, May 3, 2014 at the age of 93 years, 3 months, and 23 days.

Andrew was a member of St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler. He had served on the Balaton School Board, and was a member of A.C. Hansen American Legion Post #185 in Tyler and of the National Farmers Organization. He enjoyed music and singing, playing harmonica, woodworking, and playing cards and Rolle Bolle.
