Anita Daphne Halverson Hort was born on August 26, 1921 to Herbert and Marie (Simonson) Halverson of Kenneth, MN. Anita was raised in Kenneth the oldest of 5 children and later went on to attend Lutheran Bible School in Minneapolis. She worked several jobs there after completing her education. It was during this time that met her husband, Carl, at a church organized function for singles. They married and Anita joined Carl in Detroit, MI, where he was a pastor in the inner city. Carl and Anita adopted 2 children, Andy and Marie during their time in Detroit. Anita very much enjoyed the mission work they did in Detroit and spoke fondly of her time there where they created so many memories. They took a ministry call in Minnetonka before moving to Brooten in 1977. Carl was the pastor at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Brooten, Crow Lake Lutheran in Belgrade and Sunberg Free Lutheran in Sunberg. Anita was actively involved in the community life of all 3 parishes. Anita loved people. She was involved in Zetetic Study Club, Red Hats and volunteering at the Community Food Pantry. Tuesday’s were a highlight in her week. She very much enjoyed playing cards and socializing at the Senior Citizens Center. She frequently had her close knit group of friends over for coffee and competitive games of Rook. Fridays were Pie Days. Anita never missed an opportunity to partake in eating the biggest piece of Pricilla’s pie at Jana Mae’s. As she often claimed, it was important to have something sweet with her coffee. We will remember Anita for the endless miles she walked around town, her love of rhubarb juice and lefse, her wicked laugh, her insatiable love of visiting with people, her delicious baked goods and her generous hospitality. Most of all, Anita was a devoted Christian and servant of God. Her faith and love carried her through life’s challenges and blessings with such grace.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, her parents Herbert & Marie Halverson, brothers Conrad (Charlotte), Byron (Delores), Ronald Dale and sister, Harrriet.

She is survived by her children, Andy (Wendy) Hort of Apple Valley; daughter, Marie Hort of Plymouth: and granddaughter Alexa Hort. Anita was a very devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We take comfort in knowing she will rest in peace with God for ever and ever.
