Anna Oeding

May 26, 1920 — January 25, 2011

was born on May 26, 1920 to John and Marie (Bahlke) Fick on the farm near Boyden, IA. She was raised on the farm and attended the St. John’s Parochial School through the eighth grade. She then helped other families with housework in the area. During this time she helped twelve different families. On February 12, 1941 Anna was united in marriage to Jurgen Oeding at St. John Lutheran Church near Boyden. Following their marriage the couple began farming together. Over the next years they lived and farmed near Jasper, MN, Ash Creek, MN and finally near Luverne, MN. Anna was dedicated to working side by side with Jurgen on the farm until 1968. At this time the couple retired and sold the farm. They then moved into Luverne and remained active through custodial work for St. John Lutheran Church, delivering meals on wheels, and volunteering to lead devotions for residents at the Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown Home. In April of 2006 Anna became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown Home where on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 she passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years, seven months, and 29 days with her husband Jurgen near her side.

Anna was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Luverne. Church and her faith were the center of her life. Over the years, she taught Sunday school and Bible school, participated in women’s groups, and served in other various capacities at church. Anna enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, and baking. She was very proud of her family and always put them at the top of her priorities.
