Cherry Dock

October 19, 1924 — June 16, 2011

CHERRY DOCK was born to Floyd and Thora (Johnson) Maxson on October 19, 1924 in Pipestone, Minnesota where she was raised and attended school. She was baptized on May 30, 1926 at Lake Benton Evangelical Lutheran Church and confirmed on December 1, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota. After her graduation from Pipestone High School in 1943, she moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota and worked at the telephone company there. She later moved to Chicago, Illinois where she worked in a major department store. On April 2, 1945, she was united in marriage to Donald Dock in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following their marriage, they farmed in the area near Ihlen and Jasper. After their retirement, they continued to live on the farm. On October 6, 1994, she was preceded in death by her husband. After his death, she resided in Pipestone until August of 2006 when she moved to Anoka, Minnesota. On May 14, 2010, she became a resident at Suite Living in Champlin, Minnesota where she died on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the age of 86 years, seven months and 27 days.

Cherry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, and was active in the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Helping Hand Club and the Extension Club. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, needlework and sewing and had made many cancer caps for the hospital. She also enjoyed music, art, dancing and watching figure skating. She loved to travel and spend time with family and friends.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Gloria and her husband Alexander Vesa of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Cynthia “Cindy” and her husband Ardeen Mulder of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Steven “Steve” and his wife Kathleen Dock of Ramsey, Minnesota; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister, Dolores; and one brother, Rollie.
