Darrell Beck

December 19, 1930 — February 22, 2012

DARRELL BECK was born to Max and Helen (Sierks) Beck on December 19, 1930 in Orchard, Iowa. Growing up, he lived with his family in several towns before settling in Jasper, Minnesota. On July 21, 1946, he was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper. While living in Jasper, he met Rose DeZeeuw and they were united in marriage on September 22, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church in Holland, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived in Luverne, Minnesota where Darrell worked for Krug Trucking. A short time later, they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota, and Darrell became employed at Fecker’s Produce. When that business closed, he began working for Armour’s Creamery until this business also closed. He then became employed in the sanitation department of the City of Pipestone. He continued to work there until his retirement on July 21, 1996. On Tuesday, February 21, 2012, Darrell was admitted to the Pipestone County Medical Center where he died early the next morning, February 22, 2012, at the age of 81 years, two months and three days.

Darrell was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Pipestone where he served for many years as the head usher. In his younger years, he enjoyed league bowling. He also enjoyed dancing. He loved sports, and he was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan. He liked to play board games and put together jigsaw puzzles. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Rose Beck of Pipestone, Minnesota; three children, Kathy Kowalczyk and her husband Bill of Pipestone, Minnesota, Doug Beck of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and Kris Schiager of Pipestone, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Angie (Adam) Von Bosch of Lincoln, Nebraska, Tony Drews of Wisconsin, Vanessa Drews of Omaha, Nebraska, Jessica and Jared Nygaard and Jacey Schiager all of Pipestone, Minnesota; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Peyton, and Zachary; and two sisters, Lu Molohon and Myrtle Beck, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Beck; his son, Jeffery Beck; his granddaughter, Angela Ruth Williams; his parents; three brothers, Larry, Stanley and Wally Beck; and two sisters, Florence Peters and Verna Beck.
