Delia "Sally" Blom

November 30, 1926 — September 13, 2016

Delia “Sally' Blom was born on November 30, 1926 to Ed and Cornelia (Scholten) Tuinstra on the family farm in Battle Plain Township, Rock County, Minnesota. She attended country school and graduated from the eighth grade. Near the age of 18, she moved with her family to the farm west of Pipestone where she resided and worked until June 26, 1953 when she was united in marriage to Nick Blom at her parents’ home. This marriage was blessed with seven children. Following their marriage, they lived in Pipestone for one year until moving to a farm north of Pipestone. In 1967, they purchased a farm south of Pipestone where they farmed until retiring in 1995. Following their retirement, Sally continued to live on the farm, even after Nick’s death in 2001. In 2013, Sally moved into Falls Landing in Pipestone and resided there until May of 2016 when she moved into the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. On Tuesday, September 13, 2016, Sally passed away peacefully at the Pipestone County Hospice House at the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 13 days.

Sally was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone and participated in Ladies Circle. With her spare time she enjoyed doing word searches, crocheting, and playing cards. She also enjoyed mowing the lawn and gardening. In her home you would find the radio tuned to a country station. Sally had a talent for whistling songs, bird calls, and calling the family for meals. Her grandchildren gave her great joy in life and she loved them dearly.

Sally is lovingly remembered by six children, Marcy Roscoe of Pipestone, MN, Robert Blom of Jasper, MN, Donna (Bryan) Etrheim of Garretson, SD, Diane (Steven) Hintze of Garretson, SD, Carol (Mike) Baatz of Verdi, MN, and Karen Wohnoutka of Luverne, MN; one brother, Marvin (Jonny) Tuinstra of Verndale, MN; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, Brandie and Bailey Roscoe, Braelyn Nord, Ellyanah Ramert, Sydney and Morgan Van Grootheest, Eli Trudeau, and Cecilia Jepperson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Blom; one son, Ronald Blom; her parents; two sisters, Gladys Blom and Sophia Forman; and one brother, Dick Tuinstra.
