Dorothy Dezeeuw

DOROTHY DeZEEUW was born October 25, 1923 to Julius and Anna (Ehlers) DeVriend in Pine County, Minnesota near Rochester. She grew up in Ward, South Dakota and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elkton, South Dakota. Dorothy attended country school through grade eight. Dorothy was united in marriage to Jacob DeZeeuw on August 20, 1956 at First Presbyterian Church in Holland, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with eight children and 40 years of marriage together. The couple farmed and raised their family near Holland. Following retirement they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. Jacob died in 1996 and Dorothy continued to live at her home in Pipestone. In May of 2015, she entered the care of Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minnesota. She recently had a stroke on Sunday and died at Good Samaritan Community of Pipestone on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the age of 94 years.

Dorothy was a member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone and active within the Peace Circle. She was also a member of the Holland American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, and time spent with her family.

Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her eight children, Deborah (and Marvin) Holmgren of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Dennis (and Laurel) DeZeeuw of Cleveland, Texas, Diane (and Clair) Willemssen of Worthington, Minnesota, Danita Plueger of Sioux Falls, South Dakota (Todd Dvorak), Darla DeZeeuw of New Ulm, Minnesota, Tom (and Carla) DeZeeuw of Kingwood, Texas, Doreen (and Joe) Henderson of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Teresa Jansen of Pipestone, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren, Kyle, Dennis, Jennifer, Travis, Jordan, Angela, Amanda, Daniel, Justin, Beth, Brittany, Bryant, Brooke, Matt, and Andrew; two step-grandchildren, Paul and Samantha; 19 great-grandchildren, Bryce, Riley, Dylan, Chelsie, LeAnn, Caleigh, Max, Amelia, Ashton, Kole, Braiden, Robert, Alyvia, Chloe, Carson, McKenzie, Miley, Lincoln, and Wyatt; a step great-grandson, Easton; a sister, Evelyn Lange of Spooner, Wisconsin; and a brother, Julius “Buddy” DeVriend of Dover, Florida. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; parents, Julius and Anna; brothers, Henry DeVriend, Gustave DeVriend; sister, Margaret Eckhoff; and sons-in-law, David Jansen and Glen Dalluge.
