Edgar "Ed" Deyonge

December 3, 1931 — November 15, 2014

EDGAR “ED” OLIVER DEYONGE was born on December 3, 1931 to William and Emma (Odens) DeYonge in Adrian, Minnesota. The family moved to and resided in the Balaton, Minnesota area where Ed attended grade school and graduated from Balaton High School in 1950. After completing his education, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country in Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Fort Lewis, Washington, and many other places. He was especially proud of serving at the Pentagon for two years. He retired from the service after 30 honorable years. Before he was deployed to Korea, he was united in marriage to Janet Kay Baack on September 15, 1951 in Balaton, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with five children. On February 27, 1973, Janet passed away. Three years later, while he was stationed in Fresno, California and working at the recruiting station, Ed met Irene Torres and the two were united in marriage on April 9, 1976. The couple lived in several states, finally ending up in Pipestone, Minnesota where Ed could be nearer his children. The two lived in Pipestone for five years and on Saturday, November 15, 2014, Ed died peacefully in his home at the age of 82 years, 11 months, and 12 days.

Ed enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, fishing, and camping. He spent lots of time with his brothers in the Worthington, Minnesota area and loved to attend the many family reunions there. He truly enjoyed eating Irene’s mother’s home-made tortillas and beans. He always listened to polka and mariachi music. Ed was a charitable man, always willing to provide help to anyone in need.

Ed is lovingly remembered by his wife, Irene, of Pipestone; four children, Janette DeYonge of Adrian, Michigan, Robert L. DeYonge, Marilyn McNab of Tracy, Minnesota, and Marian (David) Brady of Pipestone; three grandchildren, Michael Gorter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Nicholas McNab of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Kelsie Nielsen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one great-granddaughter, Arianna Gorter; two sisters, Arlene Doeden of Round Lake, Minnesota, and Sharon Robyn of Florence, Colorado; many loving nieces and nephews; and his favorite dog, Leo.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janet; one infant daughter, LuAnn; and three brothers, Robert, Eugene, and James.
