Edna Shriver

December 17, 1915 — September 8, 2012

Edna Marie (Kruse) Shriver was born on December 17, 1915, to Nels Sigurd and Sigrid (Linnet) Kruse in Hope Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. She attended grade school at Brneskolen (the Children’s School) at Danebod where classes were taught half a day in Danish and half a day in English. Edna attended Tyler High School and graduated in 1934. While in high school, Edna met August (“Buster”) Shriver at a barn dance. They were married on April 12, l935. The couple farmed south of Ruthton for a year and then moved to a farm south of Tyler where they farmed for 55 more years. Their marriage was blessed with four children and 59 years of life together. August died in 1994.
Edna moved to Danebod Village in 1994. She became a resident of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in 2010, where she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 8, 2012, at the age of 96 years, 8 months and 22 days.
Edna was a lifelong member of the Danebod Lutheran Church. She was a founding member of the Danish Ladies Aid. She also was active in the Hope Afternoon Club, Home Extension, Danebod quilters, Hobby Club, and participated in Relay For Life. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, making ceramics and had a special ability to grow flowers.
Edna will be remembered for her quiet and unassuming nature. She directed attention away from herself and focused on the needs of others. She showed an interest in everyone she met, always putting their feelings first.
