ELWOOD ARDEN JENSEN was the oldest of eight children born to Ole and Ida Malinda (Snare) Jensen. He was born on November 25, 1915 on a farm in rural Hadley, Minnesota. The following year his parents purchased a farm near Slayton, Minnesota where he was raised and attended country school in District #55. In 1936, he moved with his parents to the area near Ruthton and Tyler, Minnesota. While living there, Elwood worked as a farm laborer. He later moved to Florence, Minnesota and became employed by Hypane. For many years, he delivered propane for this company in southwest Minnesota. Prior to his retirement, he moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. When he sold his home, he moved into the Storybrook Apartments in Pipestone and lived there for many years. He became a resident at Sunrise Village in Jasper, Minnesota. On April 28, 2010, Elwood entered the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where he died on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the age of 96 years, nine months and six days.

Elwood was baptized on January 9, 1915 at the Hadley Lutheran Church and confirmed on May 15, 1932 at the Slayton Evangelical Lutheran Church. While he was living in Florence, he was a member of the Opdal Lutheran Church and served as the church treasurer, sang in the church choir and served on the church board. He was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where he sang for many years in the church choir. While living in Pipestone, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and kept busy helping the club fill the gumball machines in town as part of the club project. He also sang in the Al Opland singers. He enjoyed old cars and tractors, taking many pictures and storytelling. He will be remembered by his friends for the smile on his face as he spoke in his Norwegian accent.

He is lovingly remembered by his two sisters, Arleen Mitchell of Jasper, Minnesota, and Audrey Jensen of Champlin, Minnesota; his brother-in-law, Bruce Christensen of Cherokee, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Nadine; two sisters, Julienne Christensen and Avis Barnes; two brothers, John Jensen and Duane Jensen; his niece, Lynn Barnes; and two nephews, Bryan Jensen and Ronnie Jensen.
