Esther Hoyme

ESTHER CLARA MARIE HOYME …

was born to Henry and Christine (Moen) Hill on April 7, 1919 in Moody County, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethania Lutheran Church in rural Moody County. She attended country school in Moody County and continued her education at Jasper High School in Jasper, Minnesota. After her high school graduation in 1937, she was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Pipestone, Minnesota. On November 28, 1942, she was united in marriage to Paul Hoyme at the Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, she accompanied her husband to Oregon where he was stationed at Camp White and Camp Adair. When Paul was stationed overseas, she and their infant son Jan lived with her parents in Flandreau, South Dakota. When her husband returned from his duties in North Africa and Italy, they lived in Jasper. Esther worked at the Jasper Veterinary Clinic for 13 years in addition to raising their two sons and daughter. Paul preceded her in death on December 13, 2004. After his death, she continued to live in Jasper. In 2005, she became a resident of the Sunrise Village in Jasper. Then, in August, 2010, she entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she died under hospice care on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the age of 93 years, five months and eight days.

Esther was a member of the Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, and attended Ladies Aid and Circle meetings. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Jan Hoyme of Boulder, Colorado, and Jim Hoyme and his wife Mary of North Oaks, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Kathryn and Jayson Hoyme and Maren Miller and her husband Robb; her son-in-law, Eric Andersen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one brother, Orville Hill and his wife Ardis of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many special nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Sandy Andersen who died in June, 1998; her parents; two brothers, James Hill and Clarence Hill; two sisters, Mabel Benson and Ruth Lohrman; her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hill and Jeanne Hill; and her brothers-in-law, Oscar Benson and Virtus Lohrman.
