Florine Bannick

July 17, 1936 — June 14, 2014

Florine Elaine Bannick was born July 17, 1936 to Henry and Dorothy (Pecks) Resen on the family’s farm in Gray Township, Pipestone County, Minnesota. She grew up on the farm and attended country school at District #70 in Gray Township. When she finished the eighth grade, she stayed home to help on the farm. When she was 15, her only brother was drafted, and she took his place on the tractors doing field work. She always joked, “I never went to high school, but I went out with John Deere instead, and the ole bugger wouldn’t give me a kiss goodnight, either.” Upon her brother’s return she stayed and helped with farming until she met and married Ernest Bannick on December 12, 1956 in Pipestone, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with four children and 54 years of life together. She moved from the farm of her birth to the farm of Ernest’s birth near Lake Benton, Minnesota where they lived for fifty-three years until moving into Tyler, Minnesota. Ernest passed away in 2011, after which she moved to Morris, Minnesota to be closer to family. Florine died at her home in Morris on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the age of 77.

Florine was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton, Minnesota. She enjoyed horses, gardening, raising flowers, sewing, and fishing. She baked and decorated cakes for many people and occasions. She cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

Florine is lovingly remembered by her children: Randy Bannick of Starbuck, Minnesota; Larry Bannick of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Verna Timmons of Kerkhoven, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Rachel Bannick, Amy (Ethan) Nichols, Austin Timmons, Jenna Timmons, Crystal (Travis) Tretbar, and Andrew Marks; a great-grandson, Mason Tretbar; sister-in-laws, Alice Buhl of Tyler, Minnesota and Mary Resen of Pipestone, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Emil (Betty) Bannick of Walnut Grove, Minnesota; son-in-law, Kenneth Marks of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; a daughter, Carol; her parents; her sister, Elnora Petersen, and an infant sister; and her brother, Harold Resen.

Blessed be her memory.
