Gerald Jaycox

July 13, 1930 — December 6, 2014

GERALD EVERETTE JAYCOX was born July 13, 1930 to Everette and Myrtle (Eikmeier) Jaycox in Flandreau, South Dakota. He grew up on the family farm in Alliance Township, Moody County, South Dakota and was baptized and confirmed at Salem Evangelical Church in rural Pipestone, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Egan High School in 1948. In 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. While in the army, he served as a company clerk (carrying mail) and was trained in artillery. He was honorably discharged and returned home and farmed with his father. Gerald was united in marriage to Gwen (Leuning) Jaycox on April 7, 1960 at Logan Reformed Church of rural Dell Rapids, South Dakota. Their union was blessed with three children and 54 years of marriage together. The couple resided and farmed the family farm until moving into Pipestone in 1995. Gerald enjoyed farm life and was known for his care and raising of purebred Duroc hogs. In the past few years Gerald’s health declined as he faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease. He entered into the Good Samaritan Community of Pipestone on July 10, 2014. He died there, going home to his Lord, on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the age of 84 years.

Gerald was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone. He was a part of the actual construction of the church and over the years had served on various boards of the church. Gerald enjoyed his call and vocation of farming, going to cattle sales, and especially time spent with his family.

Gerald is lovingly remembered by his wife, Gwen Jaycox of Pipestone, Minnesota; his three children, Dean (and Tracy) Jaycox of Pipestone, Minnesota, Douglas Jaycox of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Diane (and Ivan) VanEssen of Tracy, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Megan, Mason, and Myer VanEssen, Timothy, Katelyn, Ilienne, Andrew, and Caleb Jaycox; nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everette and Myrtle; and his brother, Eugene (and Yvonne) Jaycox.

Blessed be his memory.
