Glen Jurrens

November 27, 1935 — February 26, 2014

GLEN JURRENS was born in a farmhouse in George, Iowa to Claus and Anke (Henrichs) Jurrens on November 27, 1935. He attended country school in George, Iowa until the 8th grade. He then stayed home to help on the family farm till he joined the National Guard for 4 years in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Glen was introduced to Nancy by his brother Clarence, who at the time was working on her father's farm. This is where the story about the 'farmer's daughter' would not be held to! Nancy later rode her horse to meet Glen where the romance began and soon after got married, October 29 1960 at the Presbyterian Church in Slayton Minnesota. They have 4 children: Gwen, Kim, Clayton and Spencer. They settled in Pipestone in 1971. Glen and Nancy were always involved in their children's activities while growing up.

Throughout his career he managed various lumberyards across the Midwest, held various positions as Purchasing Agents in the construction arena, owned and operated his own construction company for many years and of course he was a true tradesman with his tools. He attended Dunwoody Institute and earned his certificate in commercial blue print reading and estimating. He was a member of the Michael Boock American Legion Post #6 in Pipestone.
Glen had a great love for his family and grandchildren, attending many of their sporting events, including volleyball and wrestling. Dad loved fishing, camping, gardening and an occasional round of golf. He also really enjoyed taking his granddaughter Taylor fishing and having picnics by the lake. He looked forward to his monthly suppers with his brothers and sister. Dad was always eager for a car trip traveling with Mom across the U.S. and taking the grandchildren with whenever possible to destinations like New York, Michigan, Florida, and of course Arizona. Once semi-retired, Glen was always willing to lend a helping hand and 'fix stuff' using his expert knowledge of handyman work, home repairs and construction projects.

On Sunday, February 23, Glen entered the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls South Dakota when he remained until his death on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 29 days. Glen was loving family man and although he is passed, he lives on in our hearts and memories.

Glen is survived by his wife, Nancy of Pipestone; children: Gwen (Milton) VandenBerg of Pipestone, Kim (Philip) Lofthus of Pipestone, Clayton (Lynn) Jurrens of Otsego, Minnesota, Spencer (Mary) Jurrens of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; grandchildren: Holly VandenBerg of Pipestone, Thomas VandenBerg of Little Canada, Minnesota, Ashley (Scott) Pelton of Franklin, Wisconsin, Blake (Alisha) Palmer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Taylor Whipple of Pipestone, Stephanie Jurrens of Minneapolis, Shayna Jurrens of Otsego, Chet Jurrens of Otsego, Alex Jurrens of Norfolk, Virginia and Brittany Jurrens of Inver Grove Heights; great-grandchildren: Will and Sophie Pelton and Jackson and James Palmer; siblings: Ubbe (Darlene) Jurrens of Lamars, Iowa, Alvin (Marlys) Jurrens of Sibley, Iowa, Annetta (Dave) Hickman of Algona, Iowa, Clarence (Joyce) Jurrens of Fulda, Minnesota, Harold (Faye) Jurrens of Lake Wilson, Minnesota, Jake (Ruth) Jurrens of Sibley, Iowa, Fred Jurrens of Little Rock, Iowa and Marvin Jurrens of Little Rock, Iowa.
