Glen Meyer

October 2, 1928 — April 21, 2017

Glen Earl Meyer was born October 2, 1928 to Fred and Ellen (Bruemmer) Meyer in Pipestone, Minnesota, and moved to Tyler, Minnesota when he was about 3 months old. He was baptized in Lake Wilson and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler. He graduated from Tyler High School in 1946. On June 4, 1950 Glen married Joyce Norgaard at First English Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with two sons and 66 years of life together. They built a home on the outskirts of Tyler and lived there all their life. Glen was a painter before he entered the army in 1952, serving in Korea. He was assigned in artillery and did survey work, receiving an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1954. He owned Meyer’s Standard service station for nine years. He and Joyce owned and operated Meyer’s Clothing for 33 years. On Friday, April 21, 2017, Glen died peacefully at his home at the age of 88 years while under the care of hospice.

Glen was a long-time member of First English Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council. He was a member of A.C. Hansen American Legion Post #185 in Tyler. He received honorable mention for his 27 years as finance officer of the Legion, and also as membership chairman, bringing the legion to first out of 84 posts in the district. He did much volunteer work, including chairman of Tyler Community Chest, and was chosen Grand Marshal for the 1995 Aebleskiver Days parade. Glen liked to bowl, golf, travel, watch sports, and be with people. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special part of his life.

Glen is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joyce; his sons, Bruce Meyer (Christopher Tran) of Tyler, MN, and Mark (Bonnie) Meyer of Brandon, SD; five grandchildren, Dain (Robyn) Meyer, Matt (and Andreia) Meyer, Eric Meyer, Hilary (Wade) Buchert, and Andrea (Corey) Babcock; six great-grandchildren, Jaeryn, Payson, Madison, Sofia, Samir, and Mina; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Raymond and John Meyer; and his sisters, Mildred Hansen, Erma Jaspersen, Ruby Sorensen, and Faye Koster.
