Lloyd Bunker

February 3, 1921 — June 27, 2014

ARCHIE LLOYD BUNKER was born on February 3, 1921, one of 13 children to John and Ellen (Haley) Bunker in De Smet, South Dakota. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He worked on the family farm until he entered the U.S. Army on September 2, 1942. He served mostly in Europe until he was honorably discharged on December 7, 1945. He was especially proud of serving under General Patton and fighting in the Battle of Normandy. After returning from the war, he was united in marriage to Maxine Severson on September 3, 1946 in De Smet. He farmed for a number of years before he moved to Jasper, Minnesota where he established his own plumbing business. In 2007, the couple retired and moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. In November of that year, Lloyd moved to the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. He resided there until he passed away on June 27, 2014, at the age of 93 years, four months, and 24 days.

Lloyd always loved horses; they were his passion. He enjoyed spending time at horse shows with his family. He passed his love of horses down to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He always had a smile and a contagious giggle and will be remembered for his jokes and wit.

Lloyd is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Maxine; four daughters, Mary (Marlin) Boom of Ellsworth, Minnesota, Barbara (Jack) Ockenga of Flandreau, South Dakota, Pat (Steve) Frick of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Sue (Bernie) Uilk of Pipestone, Minnesota; four sons, Larry (Paula) Bunker of Johnstown, Colorado, Mike (Rosanne Wasilchuk) Bunker of Denver, Colorado, Jeff (Connie) Bunker of Arlington, South Dakota, and Terry (Brenda Maez) Bunker of Thornton, Colorado; 28 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank (Mary) Bunker of Flandreau, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 11 brothers and sisters; one great-granddaughter, Kaylon Metzger; and one son-in-law, Donovan Fey.
