Lois Medill

July 13, 1929 — November 21, 2013

LOIS JANE AGNES MEDILL was born to William and Susanna (Steines) Evans on July 13, 1929 in Moody County, SD. She was raised for her first year near Trent, SD. The family then moved to a farm northeast of Trosky until 1941, when they moved to a farm six miles north of Pipestone, MN. During her youth, Lois attended country school and received her education through the eighth grade. In March of 1947 the family moved to a farm north of Ihlen, MN.

On July 22, 1947, Lois was united in marriage to Wayne Medill at the St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, the couple began their life together on Wayne's parents' farm three miles northwest of Hardwick, MN. His parents moved off the land within the year and Lois and Wayne continued the farming operation. While on the farm, Lois and Wayne were blessed with ten children. Along with being a homemaker to their children, Lois remained busy with other work to be done on the farm. The family grew over the years and in 1964, Lois went to work for Blue Mound Inn and Catering in Luverne, MN. In 1976, she retired from catering and returned to her full-time job as a homemaker. She and Wayne enjoyed their retirement years spending time with their grandchildren and attending as many of their activities that they could. They also enjoyed their annual fishing trip to Rainy Lake in Canada for 34 years.

Wayne preceded Lois in death on November 15, 2010. Lois continued to reside at their home. The couple was reunited on Thursday, November 21, 2013 when Lois died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 84 years, four months and eight days.

Lois was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone, where she belonged to PCCW. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening on their farm, dancing, playing cards (especially Smear and Buck Euchre), canning and fishing. She will be missed by her loving family but her spirit will forever live in the form of wonderful family memories.

Lois is survived by her children, Iris (Doug) Parrott of Gaylord, MN, Susie (Chuck) Franz of Pipestone, Sally Meeker (special friend, Rich Oye) of Pipestone, Cindy Medill of Hardwick, Tom Medill of Brandon, SD, Tim (Brenda) Medill of Sioux Falls, SD, Terry Medill of Kenneth, MN, Jackie (Dennis) Gyberg of Luverne, Lisa (Tim) Watts of Yankton, SD and Merry (Rob) Hill of Brookings, SD; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Kathy Medill of Sioux Falls; sisters-in-law, Shirley Evans of Ihlen, Esther Evans of New London, MN, and Marion Colbeck of Hopkins, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; son-in-law, Steve Meeker; parents; eight brothers, Myron, Arnold, Gerald, Virgil, Basel, Vincent, Clarence, and Harold; and three sisters, Agnes Brouwer, Renanilda Powers and Priscilla Johannsen.
