Lorraine Sterrett

February 23, 1919 — March 2, 2017

LORRAINE CELESTA STERRETT was born to Edward Michael and Anna Catherine (Hey) Neisius on February 23, 1919 in Oyens, Iowa. When she was one year old, she moved with her parents to White, South Dakota where she attended school. At the age of 16 years, she moved with her parents to Ward, South Dakota and helped her family work on the farm. In 1936, she moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where she attended Beauty Culture School. When her mother became ill in 1937, Lorraine moved back to Ward. On November 13, 1939, she was united in marriage to Raymond Leroy Sterrett in Luverne, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed north of Pipestone, Minnesota. In 1950, they moved into Pipestone, and Lorraine worked at several different cafes. She also worked for 13 years for John LeBrun and Harry Barnes at the Sale Barn in Pipestone. After their retirement, they spent the winter months in Arizona until 1995. On May 24, 2001, her husband preceded her in death. In October, 2005, Lorraine moved into the Storybrook Apartments in Pipestone. In October of 2016, she entered into the Pipestone County Hospice House where she died peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the age of 98 years and nine days.

Lorraine was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone. She enjoyed playing cards, and she especially liked to play bingo.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marilyn Sedlacek of Mountain Home, Arkansas; one son, Richard Sterrett and his wife Diane of Pipestone, Minnesota; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister, Harriet; two brothers, Edmond Neisius and Linus 'Jack' Neisius; and her son-in-law, Wesley Sedlacek.
