Lorraine Van Dyke

October 18, 1935 — February 19, 2018

Lorraine (Brands) Van Dyke was born the 9th of 13 children to Evert and Fannie (Driesen) Brands on October 18th, 1935, in Rock Valley, IA. During her younger years, her family lived in the Rock Valley, IA area and later by Pipestone, MN and Trosky, MN. Lorraine received her education in Rock Valley, IA and rural Pipestone and Trosky, MN. Following her education, she moved into an apartment in Pipestone, MN, and worked as a waitress at the Hudson Cafe.

On November 1st, 1958, Lorraine was united in marriage to Albert John Van Dyke at the First Baptist Church parsonage of Elkton, SD, the home of Pastor and Mrs. Harlan Swift. Lorraine accepted the Lord as her personal Savior in 1959, was baptized by immersion and became a member of the First Baptist Church, Elkton, SD. In the early years of their marriage, the couple lived north of Ward, SD, and later moved to the family farm in Altona Township, Pipestone, MN. Their marriage was blessed with eight children. During her later years of marriage, Lorraine worked in the bakery at Lange’s Caf in Pipestone, MN, and later in the bakery/deli at Hank's Foods in Pipestone, MN, housekeeping at Pipestone County Hospital, and various cleaning jobs around Pipestone.

In August of 2010, after having a knee replacement surgery, Lorraine was diagnosed with the beginning stages of Dementia, with her husband lovingly taking care of her on their family farm until January 2016, when Lorraine was placed in the Homestead Place/Central MN Senior Care facility in Lake Benton, MN. This was a very difficult decision for Albert as he wanted to care for his wife at home on the farm. In July, 2017, Lorraine was transferred to the Sunrise Manor in Tyler, MN, after having surgery for breast cancer. Lorraine went home to meet the Lord on Monday, February 19, 2018, at the age of 82 years, four months, and one day.

Lorraine was currently a member of the First Baptist Church in Lake Benton, MN. Lorraine enjoyed cooking/baking and was known as a wonderful cook. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for family and friends' birthdays, graduations and weddings. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, working in her garden, canning, and sewing many clothes for her children as well as formals for her daughters' weddings. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in countless memories.

Lorraine is lovingly remembered by her husband, Albert; eight children, Ruth (Myron) Miller of Blue Earth, MN, Marlin Van Dyke of Tyler, MN, Dianne Van Dyke of Mountain Lake, MN, Marlys (Brian) Moser of Tyler, MN, Donna (Richard) Morris of Pipestone, MN, Jerry Van Dyke of Mountain Lake, MN, Alvin Van Dyke of Mountain Lake, MN, and Betty Blom of Pipestone, MN; ten grandchildren, Alayna (Scott) Wiyninger of Osseo, MN, Justin (Emily) Miller of Fairmont, MN, Robin (Alan) Arends of Raymond, MN, Kyle Moser of Lake Benton, MN, Trevor Miller of Steubenville, Ohio, Eric (Jennifer) Moser of Pipestone, MN, Jared Van Dyke of Mountain Lake, MN, Kamile Van Dyke of Mountain Lake, MN, Kody Blom (fiance Maggie) of Edgerton, MN, and Braden Blom of Pipestone, MN, and nine great grandchildren.
