Marjorie Erickson

MARJORIE RAE ERICKSON was born to Henry and Neola (Feuerhelm) Nagel on June 14, 1925 in Brookings, South Dakota where she was raised and attended school. After her graduation from Brookings High School in 1942, she attended General Beadle College in Madison, South Dakota, receiving a one year teaching degree. Upon completion of her education, she taught in Brookings County until 1948. She then taught first grade in Milbank, South Dakota and in 1951, taught in Madison. In 1954, she began teaching first grade at Central School in Pipestone, Minnesota. On August 21, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert O. Erickson in Brookings. Following their marriage, they lived in Pipestone where she continued to teach at Central School. From 1963 until 1966, Marjorie taught Nursery School in her home. She then began teaching first grade again at Central School while attending General Beadle College in Madison where she graduated in 1968 with a four year degree. She furthered her education at South Dakota State University in Brookings, graduating with a Master’s degree in Education. During this time, she started teaching at Brown Elementary School in Pipestone where she wrote the curriculum and taught transition room curriculum. In 1981, she taught second grade at Hill Elementary School in Pipestone until 1990. While she was teaching, she was an active member of the Pipestone Education Association, Minnesota Education Association, and National Education Association. Marjorie later relocated to Founders Ridge in Bloomington, Minnesota, where she died peacefully on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at the age of 92 years, 9 months, and 25 days.

Marjorie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Pipestone where she taught Sunday school. She served on various church committees and was a circle member and chairman. During retirement, she enjoyed making dolls and baby quilts, and playing bridge.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Bruce (Mickey) Erickson of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Becky (Keith) Farniok of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Reed, Grant (Brandi), and Cole Erickson, Kari and Abby Farniok; great grandchild, Calvin Erickson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Erickson; son, Joey Erickson; parents; five brothers; and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, Pipestone or the American Cancer Society.
