Millicent Hanson

MILLICENT HANSON was born Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1924, on a farm in Drammen Township, Lake Benton, Minnesota, to Jorgen and Christine (Tambo) Jorgensen. She was baptized on Christmas Day, December 25, 1924, and confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 10, 1938, at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church.
Millie attended country school at District 68 and graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, Minnesota, in 1942. After graduation, she found employment in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Great Lakes, Illinois.
On December 26, 1945, Millie was united in marriage to Merle Hanson at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church in Lake Benton, Minnesota. To this union, five children were born. They made their home on a farm in Diamond Lake Township, then moving to Canby, Minnesota. In 1958, they moved to the family farm in Drammen Township where Millie was born and raised. In 1995, they moved to Tyler and in 1999, they moved to Lake Benton where Millie was still residing at the time of her death.
Millie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton, Minnesota, participating in Ladies Aid, bible study and helping with quilts. She belonged to Knitting Club and was a member of the Farm Bureau. She taught Sunday School at Our Savior's Lutheran in Canby and also at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church.
Millie enjoyed listening to polka and waltz music. In her younger years, she loved to dance, especially at the Showboat Ballroom. She enjoyed baking and sharing with friends and neighbors. She loved traveling with her husband in earlier years, bird watching and having friends and family in for coffee.
Millie died on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at the Hendricks Hospital in Hendricks, Minnesota; she had lived to reach the age of 88 years.
Millie is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Diane (Paul) Wichmann of Rapid City, South Dakota; son, Brian (Cheryl) Hanson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; and daughter Tamara (Lon) Foote of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Brady (Amber) Wichmann of Rapid City, South Dakota, Angela (Mike) Kicker of Anoka, Minnesota, T.J. Wichmann of Los Angeles, California, Carrie (Nate) Clausen of Brookings, South Dakota, Parker Foote of Des Moines, Iowa, and Paige Foote of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; five great-grandchildren: Cade and Danika Wichmann, Lillian and Ben Clausen and Liam Kicker; her sister Audrey (Earl) Bedsted of Arroya Grande, California; nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merle in 2001, two infant sons: Terry and Bradley and an infant grandson, Cody.
