Narene Dunn

May 14, 1922 — April 23, 2012

NARENE V. DUNN was born to Harry Lincoln and Vera (Adams) Tower on May 14, 1922 in Beaver Creek, Minnesota where she was raised and received her education. She graduated as Valedictorian from Beaver Creek High School in 1940. On October 30, 1942, she was united in marriage to Chester Dunn in Worthington, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they resided in Salinas, California. While her husband was serving in WWII, she and her baby daughter moved back to Beaver Creek to be closer to her family. After Chet’s discharge from the army, they farmed near Magnolia and Beaver Creek, Minnesota. In 1951, they bought a farm northeast of Jasper, Minnesota. She raised 1,200 chickens each year, selling the eggs as her contribution to the family farming operation. Chet passed away in March of 1981. NaRene continued to live and work on the farm until 1989, when she moved into Ihlen, Minnesota. In September of 2009, she became a resident at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She died on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the age of 89 years, 11 months and nine days.

NaRene was a member of United Methodist Church in Jasper, Minnesota where she was active in the Ladies’ Aid. She was also a member of the Porkettes and the neighborhood Home Extension group. She enjoyed sewing. She had a very large garden and then canned everything she grew. She was a wonderful cook. Most of her best recipes were not in written form. She will be remembered for her chocolate angel food cake, pumpkin and apple pies and her fried chicken. None can be duplicated.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Carol Rozsa of Chandler, Arizona, David Dunn and his wife Judy of Dallas Center, Iowa, Lynn Manning and her husband Michael of Deming, New Mexico, Patti Dunn of Plymouth, Minnesota, Alan Dunn and his wife Kathy of Pipestone, Minnesota and Thomas Dunn and his wife Diane of Jasper, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Vivienne Tatge of Hills, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one grandson, Justin Olson; one son-in-law, George Rozsa; three sisters, Mildred Melin, Virginia Keyes, and Flora Lea Sylliaasen; and three brothers, Russell Tower, Gale Tower and Robert Tower.
