Roger Gylling

July 22, 1944 — August 30, 2014

Roger felt blessed to be born into the loving family of Robert E. and Dorothy C. Gylling on July 22, 1944 at the Tyler Hospital. He grew up in Drammen Township and was baptized and confirmed at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church, rural Lake Benton. He attended District #68 Country School through 6th grade and graduated from Lake Benton High School in 1962. After graduation, Rog moved with the family to Tyler and started farming with his Dad. He also worked at Christianson Implement and later managed the fertilizer plant at Lincoln County Co-op Oil Co. For many years he farrowed pigs and fed cattle as well as crop farmed. He had a wonderful work ethic. Roger truly loved farming and his seed business of 41 years.

On April 2, 1966, he was united in marriage to Beverly Nelson. They were blessed with 2 sons, Jason and Justin, and 48+ years of marriage. Roger enjoyed reading, fishing, toy tractor collecting, attending auctions, and tractor and machinery shows. He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, Tylan, Madison, Carson, Brayden, and Jaylen.

Roger treasured the friendships he made throughout the community as he served on Danebod Church Council and on the boards of Tyler Co-op Elevator, FSA, Wells Fargo Bank, and Norgaard Community Turbines. He said he learned so much by serving on these boards.

Roger lived bravely with ALS for 4 years. He was able to remain at home through the wonderful care of Ridgeview Hospice and his family. He enjoyed the many visits of friends who would stop and spend a few minutes with him. On August 30, 2014, God called Roger to his heavenly home.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Bev; sons, Jason and his wife Danielle, and Justin, all of Tyler; five grandchildren; his brothers, Don (Nealna) of Brainerd, MN and Steve (Fran) of Brookings, SD; and many special nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Rosella Gylling, and an infant sister, Janet Diane.

What a difference Roger has made in our lives!
