Roseellen Anderson

ROSEELLEN BEATRICE ANDERSON was born on January 2, 1936 in Kossuth County, Iowa to Frank and Mary (Paulus) Boever. She was raised in Iowa where she received her education, graduating from high school in 1954, in Ledyard, Iowa. After high school, she moved to Estherville, Iowa and started working. In 1962, she was united in marriage to Joe Gard in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Joe preceded her in death in 1971. Rose owned and operated Smokey Joe’s Bar in Emmetsburg. On December 1, 1972, Rose was united in marriage to Jim Anderson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Rose loved to tell people that she had the best husband in the world. They made their home in Emmetsburg until 1978 when they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota where they owned and operated the Oasis bar until the fall of 1982 when the bar was destroyed by a fire. In 1987, they moved to Holland, Minnesota until 1995 when they moved to Woodstock, Minnesota. In March of 2015, Rose was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. On August 12, 2015, she was admitted into the Pipestone County Medical Center and on August 17, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. On September 1, she was placed on hospice care and remained at Good Sam until her death on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the age of 79 years, eight months, and 22 days.

Rose was a member of the St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock and the Pipestone American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered with the American Cancer Society selling daffodils. She was a member of the Shoreline Association and the Sportsman’s Club of Lake Shakotan. Rose liked fishing, camping, gardening, canning, and especially playing pool. Most importantly, Rose loved spending time with her family.

RoseEllen is lovingly remembered by her husband, Irvin “Jim” Anderson of Woodstock, MN; children, Gary (Diane) Anderson of Alta, Iowa, and Mark (Karey) Anderson of Ankeny, Iowa; five grandchildren, Christopher (Becca) Anderson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jon Anderson of North Liberty, Iowa, Matt (Jeannie) Anderson of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Joshua Anderson of Sheldon, Iowa and Mike (Katie) Anderson of Ankeny, Iowa; six great-grandchildren, Laycee, Maggie, Nickali, Juliet, Walker, and Gryffin; siblings, Arlene Bona of Fort Ripley, Minnesota, Marvin (Nina) Boever of Estherville, Iowa, and Betty Boever of Blue Earth, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews; special family friends, Terry (Doris) Bruns of Pipestone, Jason and Tim of Pipestone, Larry (Donna) Bruns of Pipestone, James Bruns of San Diego, California, Mike (Violet) Fiedler of Pipestone, Mike Fiedler of Pipestone, and Marsha Dilly of Brandon, South Dakota. She is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Norman, Arnold, Manfred, and Darrold; and one sister, Doris Robinson.
