Obituary for Adeline "Sis" M. Krusemark

Adeline “Sis” Matilda Krusemark was born to John Frederick and Hattie (Paulsen) Anderson on June 6, 1922 at the Pipestone Hospital, which is the former Dr. Keyes Building in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was raised on the family farm in Altona Township of Pipestone County where she attended country school in District 61. During her youth, she was given the nickname Sis by her brother, Loren, who couldn’t pronounce Adeline, and the name stuck. She also attended high school in Verdi, Minnesota and graduated from there in 1940. On October 5, 1943, she was united in marriage to Henry “Dewey” Krusemark on her parents’ farm. Following their marriage, they farmed with her parents for three years. Over the next few years, the family moved around from South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Louisiana before settling on a farm in Altona Township of Pipestone County. Sis helped with all of the farm work. After their retirement in 1990, they continued to live on the farm until 2000 when they moved into Pipestone. In April, 2007, Dewey preceded her in death. In 2008, Sis moved to the Ridgeview Estates in Pipestone. Due to declining health, Sis moved into the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone in 2019. She died there peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the age of 98 years, four months, and 25 days.

Sis was baptized at Altona Methodist Church in rural Pipestone. She later became a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. Sis and Dewey’s home was a revolving door of visitors and seemed to have an “invisible welcome sign” for anyone and everyone. Sis had an amazing ability to make people feel welcome and whip up a meal at the drop of a hat. One of her staples were her homemade pancakes, which were thin and easily rolled up with butter and sugar. Sis and Dewey had more than enough love to open their hearts to everyone, letting strangers and family stay with them as long as they liked. When not entertaining guests or changing sheets, she enjoyed reading and sewing. Some words of wisdom from Sis, “If you want something done, make him think it was his idea.”

She is lovingly remembered by her two children, David Krusemark and his wife Colleen of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Betty Thooft and her husband Donald of Tyler, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Cary (Jill) Krusemark, Stacy (Stephanie) Krusemark, Mindy (Jerid) Johnson, and Travis (Amanda) Thooft; ten great-grandchildren, Gavin and Madeline Krusemark, Kaden and Kylie Krusemark, Adrianna, Austin, and Landon Johnson, Elijah, Declan, and Jane Thooft; loving nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey; parents; and two brothers, Francis Anderson and Loren Anderson.
