Albert Hubers

ALBERT HUBERS was born to William and Jennie (Docter) Hubers on June 15, 1923 in Sioux Center, Iowa where he was raised and attended school. Later he moved with his family to Doon, Iowa where he attended Doon Christian School. After completing his education, he moved with his family to Bigelow, Minnesota. Then when he was 17 years old, they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota and Al worked on the farm. On November 26, 1942, he was united in marriage to Ellen Halbersma at her family’s farm near Pipestone. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm in Gray Township of Pipestone County. Besides farming, he worked at the sale barn. Later, he became employed by Pan-O-Gold Bakery in Pipestone. After working at the bakery for several years, he began working at the Farmer’s Center and then at the lumberyard. In 1960, they moved to another farm in Grange Township, north of Pipestone. In 1976, he started his own business which he called A&E and worked here until his retirement in 1989. On November 29, 1997, Ellen preceded him in death. After her death, he continued to live in Pipestone. On March 15, 2010, Al became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where he died on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the age of 89 years, three months and 29 days.

Al was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone where he served as the head usher. He was also a member of the Golden K Kiwanis in Pipestone. Al enjoyed building hayracks, utility sheds, calf huts, as well as wishing wells, bird houses and windmills for yard ornaments which he and his wife sold at craft fairs. He built the raised flower beds at the Good Samaritan Home, and he enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling on bus tours to various locations.

He is lovingly remembered by his special friend, Betty Stanton of Pipestone, Minnesota; his children, Jolene Hubers of Pittsford, New York, Ruth and her husband Jim Smith of Mason City, Iowa, Thelma and her husband Bill Boyle of Port Charlotte, Florida, Albert and his wife Karen Hubers of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Myron and his wife Beth Hubers of Hoschton, Georgia, Glenn and his wife Pat Hubers of Pipestone, Minnesota, Willis and his wife Keri Hubers of Baltic, South Dakota, Pamela and her husband Mike Pingeon of Marshall, Minnesota, Karen and her husband John Hoekstra of Lynd, Minnesota and Sandra and her husband Bill Mack of Langdon, North Dakota; 32 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Jacob Hubers of Ihlen, Minnesota and Vernon and his wife Clarene Hubers of Pipestone, Minnesota; and his son-in-law, Nelvin Schelhaas of Luverne, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen; his son, Randy; his daughter, Geneva Schelhaas; one granddaughter, Heidi Dawn Mack; and one grandson, Keith Brian Hubers.
