Obituary for Albert Roy Miller
ALBERT ROY MILLER was born to Bernard and June (DeBall) Moe, July 7th 1942 in Brookings County, South Dakota. Albert was adopted by his uncle and aunt, Frederick and Minnie (Moe) Miller, of rural Ward, South Dakota when he was a toddler. Albert grew up on the farm east of Ward. As an adult, he moved into the State Hospital system, living in Faribault, St. Peter, and Willmar, Minnesota. In September 1976, Albert moved to Hiawatha Manor, Inc. in Pipestone, Minnesota, where Albert spent the next 44 years. The last seven of those years was at Destiny House in a smaller home setting. On October 3, 2020 Albert passed away at the Pipestone County Medical Center at the age of 78 years 2 months and 26 days.
Albert, through the years, truly enjoyed riding his bike, working on his "Motors", mowing lawns, and spending time outdoors. He really kept true to his farming roots all these years, still enjoying looking at tractors, steam threshing, driving through implement lots, and watching the crop each year in the backyard. Albert looked forward to holidays with great anticipation, especially those involving gifts like Christmas and his birthday. These holidays also brought visits from his cousin, Helen Miller, which brought him much enjoyment. April Fools’ Day was another great holiday for Albert, as he loved to tease staff. Albert loved music and would play you a tune on his guitar and fiddle. He collected DVDs, CDs, and toy tractors. Albert liked attending Senior Dining, going to dances, going to Prairie Village, and his annual fishing camp. Visits from his guardian, Jana Piotter were welcomed by Albert and he found a lot of pleasure in the activities they did together.
Albert worked at Progress, Inc. for the past 28 years and Hope DAC prior to that. He was a hard worker and he loved his job power washing hog barns, and did this for about 20 years. Albert would not be happy if there was a blizzard and he couldn't go to work.
Albert is lovingly remembered by Rich Gergen of Pipestone, who was more than staff to Albert; his guardian, Jana Piotter of Jeffers, MN; his housemate; all the direct support professionals from Hiawatha Manor, Inc. and Progress Inc.; those throughout his life that supported him; his case manager; and his cousin Helen Miller.
Blessed be his memory!
