Alvin "Al" Zeinstra

April 24, 1950 — August 18, 2015

ALVIN 'AL' WAYNE ZEINSTRA…

was born on April 24, 1950 to Felix and Cornelia (Overgaauw) Zeinstra in Pipestone, Minnesota. He attended grade school in Holland, Minnesota and high school in Pipestone, graduating with the class of 1968. On August 7, 1971, he was united in marriage to Betty Moen in Bigelow, Minnesota and to this union two daughters were born. The family moved from Pipestone where he was employed with Winter Concrete; to Ruthton in 1979, where Al began working for Rupp Sand and Gravel. In 1992, Al began working on the road maintaining wind turbines in many states. In the mid-90’s he settled in Billings, Montana where he worked as a general contractor for 10 years. In 2009, Al returned to Minnesota to be closer to his family. He made his home in Luverne, continuing to work with wind turbines until he was diagnosed with Colo-rectal cancer in October of 2010. Although his cancer was in remission, Al struggled to maintain his health. On Tuesday, August 18, 2015, Al died at his home in Luverne at the age of 65 years, three months and 24 days.

Al had many talents and hobbies. He was a ‘tinkerer’, he was precise and neat whether it was with electrical, plumbing or on cars, especially his El Camino. Al was an excellent pool player, trying to instill that same passion in his children. At one point, Al was ranked 5th in the state. He also enjoyed the Minnesota Twins and most importantly, spending time with his family.

Al is lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Malissa Bentley and Rebecca Schulze, both of Tracy, Minnesota; his mother, Cornelia of Holland, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Andria Dunn, Ashlyn Bentley, Kally Bentley, Daine Bentley and Braylen Loring; and three great-grandchildren, Kylee, Lucian and Larz. He was preceded in death by his father, Felix; his former wife, Betty Moen; and his brother, Randy.

He will be deeply missed by many friends and family.
