Obituary for Amanda Vis

AMANDA LYNN VIS was born on September 15, 1979 to Tony and Sharon (Remme) Miller at the Luverne Community Hospital in Luverne, Minnesota. Mandy received her baptism on October 6, 1979 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Luverne. A few years later she had the arrival of her baby sister, Amber. Mandy received her first communion on April 24, 1988 and was confirmed on May 4, 1997 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. She lived in Luverne most of her life and attended Luverne Elementary and Luverne High School. Upon her graduation in 1998 Mandy took a job as shift manager at McDonald’s and later went to work for Habilitative Services, Inc. (HSI) in Luverne. She loved caring for individuals with developmental disabilities and helping them achieve greater independence. After a few years she went to work at Bayliner in Pipestone and also continued her work at HSI, picking up hours whenever possible. When the Bayliner plant closed she became employed at V & M Meat Locker in Leota. Mandy was united in marriage to Justin Vis on August 4, 2007. Justin and Mandy made their home in Leota but were later separated. She then moved to Edgerton where she lived with a special friend, Art DePass. Mandy passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident Saturday, May 26, 2012 near Leota at the age of 32 years, 6 months and 13 days.

Mandy enjoyed life to the fullest and had a smile that could light up the room. In her childhood years, she was into BMX bike racing and earned plenty of hardware to show for her efforts. Many hours were spent as a family traveling to different tracks to watch her compete. She enjoyed spending time up at Diamond Lake near Willmar, Minnesota where she was able to pursue her greatest love, fishing. She also enjoyed playing softball, watching basketball, taking pictures, being outdoors and had an artistic side which was evident in her jewelry designs. She loved spending time with friends and especially loved spoiling her two favorite little people in the world, her nieces, Courtney and Gracie.

Mandy will be greatly missed. She was the kind of girl who was willing to help anyone at any time. Through her death, Amanda’s gift of organ donation gave life and hope for four others and their families.

Mandy is survived by her parents, Tony and Sharon Miller of Luverne; her sister, Amber Nath and her husband Chris of Luverne, and their children, Courtney and Gracie; and other family and friends.
