Obituary for Ann K. Petersen
ANN KATHLEEN PETERSEN was born on April 10, 1945 to James and Berniece (Hind) Mortland in Tyler, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm outside of Lake Benton, Minnesota and attended District 10 country school before graduating from Lake Benton High School. Following her education she moved to Pipestone, Minnesota where she worked at Sturdevants, Marigold Dairy and the Hiawatha Roller Rink. On June 4, 1966, Ann married Henry Petersen at the Lake Benton Methodist Church. The couple settled in Hardwick, Minnesota where they farmed and raised their family. Ann helped on the farm and loved being home with their children. When the kids became older, she started working various jobs at Kroggie’s Kegger in Hardwick, testing cows with the Pipestone County DHIA, KJ’s Bar and then at Nobles Rock Public Health Service until her retirement. On Thursday, January 17, 2019, Ann died at the Pipestone County Medical Center at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Ann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Edgerton, Minnesota. She always enjoyed work outside, whether that be yard work, tending to her flower gardens or raising their chickens, turkeys and peacocks. In her later years, Ann enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and family on her computer. Her children and grandchildren will remember all the cakes she baked and decorated for special occasions.
Ann is lovingly remembered by her husband, Henry; children, Beth (Terry) Kalass of Luverne, Minnesota, Hope (Lowell) Schelhaas of Hardwick, and Heath (Keri) Petersen of Edgerton, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Spenser Kalass (special friend, Marni DeBoer), Jasmine Kalass, Jenna and Nicole Schelhaas, and Kenzi, Hank and Huck Petersen; and siblings, Virginia Yearous of Balaton, Minnesota, Dan (Priscilla) Mortland of Chicago, Illinois and Bill (Rita) Doyscher of Tyler. She was preceded in death by her son, Hank; parents; siblings, Lorraine Doyscher and Dean Mortland; parents-in-law, George and Elnora Petersen; and sisters-in-law, Louise Van Huevelen and Marilyn Mortland.
