Audrey Faber

February 11, 1928 — July 20, 2016

AUDREY ARLENE FABER was born on February 11, 1928 to Gerrit and Gertrude (Vander Tuig) Hop in Hawarden, Iowa. At age 10, Audrey moved with her family to Artesia, California and attended Belfower Christian High School, graduating in 1944. On July 26, 1945, Audrey was united in marriage to Francis Faber. The couple began their life together in Artesia. In 1951, they moved to a farm northeast of Inwood, Iowa. Five years later, they moved to a farm in Iowa, near the Minnesota border south of Luverne. The family later moved to the Hills, Minnesota area. As their children became older, Audrey pursued a career as a LPN by attending school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She completed her education and began working at the community hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa. In 1967, the family moved to a farm west of Luverne. Audrey then went to work at the Donohoe Clinic on Main Street in Luverne for a short time before becoming employed at the Luverne Community Hospital. In 1981, Audrey and Francis built a new home on their farm place. Later in her working years, Audrey went to a part-time schedule. She and Francis then began wintering to Mesa, Arizona, which they enjoyed for over the next 35 years. In 2012, Audrey and Francis moved to the Crown Point Senior Living Facility in Sioux Center, Iowa. Audrey lived for a short time in the Lyon Manor in Rock Rapids, before moving to the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minnesota. On Wednesday, July 20, 2016, with her family at her side, Audrey went to be with the Lord at the age of 88 years and five months.

Audrey was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Luverne. She was a charter member of Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Mesa. She enjoyed making potato salad and divinity, and baking pies, balkenbrij and banket. She also enjoyed making trips to the farm fields to bring the men their meals. While in Arizona, Audrey loved sitting in the sun and would always be ready to entertain visitors. One of her greatest joys was her family. When each of her grandchildren graduated from high school, Audrey made sure to crochet them their own afghan as a special gift.

Audrey is lovingly remembered by her husband of what would have been 71 years on July 26, 2016, Francis; two children, William “Butch” (Catherine) Faber of Pacific Grove, California, Judi (Ed) Boersma of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Darla Faber of Luverne; son-in-law, Dennis Vander Plaats of Sioux Center; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter (one more on the way); and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by three children, Crystal Faber, Robert Faber and Gloria Ackerman Vander Plaats; son-in-law, Barney “Bud” Ackerman, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Breiton Ackerman and Kyle Faber; a great-great-granddaughter, Paige Punt; parents; and three siblings, Harry Hop, Bud Hop and Sadie Vos.
