Bernice Ortman

BERNICE BECKER ORTMAN was born on July 3, 1933 to Joel and Wadia (Ratzloff) Becker in Marion, SD. She went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 in Pipestone at the age of 83 years, five months, and three days.

Bernice grew up on the farm and attended country school. Bernice married Edward Ortman on June 20, 1954. While living in Mitchell, SD, she worked at the hospital. After the children arrived she stayed at home. When Edward passed away on July 26, 1979, she ran a home daycare for 15 years in Pipestone. After retirement she enjoyed working in her garden, raising flowers, being outside, sight-seeing and spending time with her family.

At a young age Bernice accepted her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was baptized by immersion and lived out her faith daily. She enjoyed reading her Bible and praying for her children, grandchildren and great-grandson.

She is lovingly remembered by her three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandson:

She is also survived by one sister, Benita (Darrell) Weinacht of Dell Rapids, SD and their son, Scott; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Bishop of Greenville, NC and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, mother and father.
