Obituary for Beuella Johnson

BEUELLA CHARLOTTE (LECY) JOHNSON was born on August 15, 1918, in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Bendick and Clara Lecy. Church was the center of their home. Confirmed in Norwegian, she was active in LDR and Luther League. Her musical interests led her to sing with two other young ladies in her church.

She wrote musical parts for the three of them, as well as playing the organ at church. In addition, she graduated salutatorian of Echo High School in 1937.

On June 16, 1940, Beuella and Carlyle Johnson were united in marriage. They lived in Echo, Minnesota, Lannon, Wisconsin, and finally Jasper, Minnesota in 1956, where Carlyle was employed by Jasper Stone Company.

Beuella was a voracious reader and writer. While in school, she read all the books in the Granite Falls Library. She wrote many journals about her life and the lives of her family members. She also wrote the history of the Jasper Stone Company.

She loved sewing. That love led her to working on quilts for the church mission society. She had a great ability to put colors together as well as assemble them in such a way that they sold quickly.

Beuella’s family remembers her for her baking ability. Family members were known to hide “Grandma J’s buns” in order to take them home at the end of the day. Her pies were always sought after, leaving no “leftovers” for anyone to take home!

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Curtis Johnson of Jasper; and daughter, Cynthia (Pastor Mark) Jamison of Boyden, Iowa; grandsons, Sean (Candie), Travis (Bobby Jo), Jared (Kayla); step-grandson, Gregg (Becca) Jamison; step-granddaughter, Jill (Jason) Giefer; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Beuella left this earth on July 15, 2021 just one month prior to her 103 birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband Carlyle; parents, Clara and Bennie; sister, Ardith; brother, Coral; and daughter-in-law, Dianne.
