Bruce Tofteland

February 9, 1959 — October 19, 2022

Bruce Milo Tofteland, was born February 9, 1959 to Arthur and Lois (Koolman) Tofteland in Adrian, Minnesota. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church and later confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. Bruce spent his childhood on the family farm in Kanaranzi Township. In 1968, at 9 years old, he suffered the tragic loss of his father.

Bruce attended Luverne High School and graduated in 1978. After graduation, Bruce remained on the farm helping with chores and yard work. He kept busy tinkering with electronics (stereos, watches, etc.) and of course, car motors and parts. He could take anything apart, and put back together in working condition. He had a talent for fixing and a passion for collecting GTOs- an interest he followed for most of his life. Later, Bruce attended Stewart’s in Sioux Falls, graduating in 1984. He continued his career in Minneapolis as a hair stylist at JCPenney in Roseville. After 25 years, he retired and took an interest in traveling. He enjoyed long trips to Mexico during the winter months. In 2009, Bruce discovered ballroom dancing. He was talented and danced for 8 years all around Minneapolis and he had many friends in the ballroom community. He also assisted with auctions, following in his mother’s footsteps.

In 2018, Bruce suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) from a motor vehicle/pedestrian accident. As he was no longer able to drive, Bruce didn’t let that stop him. He explored coffee shops, local stores and restaurants, and was soon known by name throughout his Minneapolis neighborhood. In August of 2022, Bruce moved back home. The move was positive for Bruce as he reconnected with friends and family. He enjoyed walks and exploring his expanded home town. His favorites were enjoying chicken at pizza ranch and mochas at Wildflower. On October 19, 2022, Bruce passed away in his home at the age of 63 years.

Bruce had a very fun, goofy, and loving personality. He was a kind person with an old soul and free spirit. He will be remembered for the twinkle in his eye and humbleness. Bruce was one of a kind that could never be replaced. He and his smirky grin will be deeply missed.

Bruce is survived by his sister, Sonya (Randy) Miller; nieces, Erika and Kelli Miller; as well as many loving cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Lois Tofteland.
