Carroll G. Honken

CARROLL GENE HONKEN was born on October 28, 1931 to Fred, Sr. and Gertrude (De Groot) Honken in Kenneth, Minnesota. Carroll attended Country School District #55. The Honken family moved to Jasper, Minnesota in 1943 and Carroll continued his education there. After a time, the family moved to north of Hardwick, Minnesota where they farmed and Carroll helped his father and other local farmers. He enjoyed threshing during the haying season. On December 6, 1975, he was united in marriage to Bernice (Jackson) Edwards at Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone. The couple lived in Pipestone and in 1980, Carroll began working for Hyde Oil. After four years there, he worked for Harold Monkemeier on his farm for the next 30 years. In 1996 he began working on the school patrol and was a member of this group for 10 years. In 2015 he retired and enjoyed his time at home. He entered the Pipestone County Medical Center and on Thursday, June 6, 2019 he passed away suddenly at the age of 87 years, seven months, and nine days.

Carroll was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone. He enjoyed riding motorcycle with Bernice for the past 30 years. He loved watching Polka music on TV on Saturday and Sunday evenings. He was a friendly man who never spoke a harsh word.

Carroll is lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Bernice of Pipestone; three step-sons, Robert Edwards of St. James, Minnesota, Bruce (Liddy) Edwards of Osceola, Indiana, and Dennis (Connie) Edwards of Jackson, Minnesota; one step-daughter, Linda (Troy) Mickelson of St. James, Minnesota; numerous step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred Honken, Jr. of Muscatine, Iowa; one sister, Shirley Honken of Hills, Minnesota; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Carroll, Allen, Donald and John; and one step-daughter, Wilma Mays.
