Obituary for Chester Nesvold

Chester Nesvold was born to Johannes and Ingevorg (Walseth) Nesvold on December 22, 1910 in Lac Qui Parle County, near Madison, Minnesota where he was raised on the family farm and attended country school. He continued his education at Madison High School. Following his graduation from high school in 1927, he enlisted in the National Guard for one year and then in the Civilian Conservation Corp. After he served in the CCC for over six years, he worked at the grain elevator in Madison and also in Trosky, Minnesota. In October, 1942, he entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. After his discharge from the service in December, 1945, Chet returned to Trosky. On December 30, 1945, he was united in marriage to Avis Faulkner in Luverne, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they farmed her father’s farm near Trosky. They continued to farm there until their retirement in 1974 and lived on the farm until 1986, when they moved into Pipestone, Minnesota. In 1998, they moved to Ridgeview Estates in Pipestone. On November 14, 2005, he became a resident at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where he died on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the age of 100 years and 23 days.

Chet was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone where he served on various church boards and committees. He was also a member of the Pipestone Golden K Kiwanis Club and the International Order of the Odd Fellows. For over 15 years, he served on the Elmer Township Board in Pipestone County as treasurer, assessor and clerk. He was also on the Pipestone Elevator Board and the Sweet Township Board for over ten years. Chet also was a long- time volunteer at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Avis Nesvold of Pipestone, Minnesota; three sons, Ronald Nesvold and his wife Judy of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Steven Nesvold and his wife Louise of Surprise, Arizona and Richard Nesvold and his wife Nancy of New Ulm, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Gustav Nesvold, Bernhard Nesvold, Edwin Nesvold and Orville Nesvold; and four sisters, Lenora Nesvold, Alice Nesvold, Ruth Solem, and Julia Jacobsen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
