CLIFFORD JAMES BOOM was born on February 9, 1948 to Louis and Anna Marie (Bouwman) Boom in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm near Lester, Iowa and graduated from West Lyon Community School in 1966. On February 21, 1968 he was drafted into the United States Army and served at Fort Lewis in Washington and Fort Hauchuca in Arizona before being sent to Vietnam on July 4, 1968. He was honorably discharged from service on September 10, 1969. On January 1, 1970 Cliff moved near Beaver Creek, Minnesota where he started farming. On October 27, 1972 Cliff was united in marriage to Carrie Van Maanen. The couple held a farm sale on January 1, 1973 and moved into Beaver Creek. Cliff worked for the Beaver Creek Coop Elevator until September 1, 1974 when he then enrolled into the Agricultural Banking program at Pipestone Technical College in Pipestone, Minnesota. On July 1, 1976 he graduated from school. On August 24, 1976 the family moved to Slayton, Minnesota where Cliff began his employment with Production Credit Association. On November 1, 1978 they moved to Luverne, Minnesota where he began working for the U.S. Bank System which became First Farmers and Merchants National Bank. On August 1, 1985 the family returned to Beaver Creek. Cliff continued to work for First Farmers and Merchants National Bank for 39 years until his retirement on August 1, 2017. Cliff was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma on February 13, 2017. On Saturday, September 1, 2018, while at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage, Cliff went to be with his Lord at the age of 70 years, six months and 22 days.

Cliff was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Creek. He served on the Rock County Fair Board, Beaver Creek Sportsman Club, Luverne Optimist Club, and was one of the original members of the Beaver Creek Recreational Club. He also held the office of mayor of Beaver Creek, and served on the Beaver Creek city council. He was a lifetime member of the Luverne VFW Post 2757 and the Dell Hogan Luverne American Legion Post 123. Cliff enjoyed his grandchildren, golfing, fishing, hunting, and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

He is lovingly remembered by his three children, Randy and his wife Brenda Van Maanen of Hills, Minnesota, Rhonda Meester of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Ranae and her husband Jason Johnson of Luverne; special friend, Cheryl Edstrom of Luverne; six grandchildren, Jared Van Maanen of Hills, Justin and his wife Amanda Van Maanen of Hills, Dalton and Ashton Meester of Sioux Falls, and Chase and Sydne Johnson of Luverne; four great-grandchildren, Tess and Nate Van Maanen of Hills, Jackson and Samantha Van Maanen of Hills; a brother, Chris and his wife Carol Boom of Larchwood, Iowa; a sister, Judy and her husband Wayne Cope of Ankeny, Iowa; a brother-in-law, James Van Maanen of Beaver Creek; and six nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Carrie Boom; his parents, Louis and Anna Boom; and his parents-in-law, Albert and Fannie (Reurink) Van Maanen.
