Conrad M. Tofteland

April 11, 1924 — January 17, 2013

CONRAD MILLER TOFTELAND was born April 11, 1924 to Andrew E. and Katrine (Barstad) Tofteland on the family farm in Clinton Township, Rock County, Minnesota. He attended country school through the 8th grade and attended two years of high school. Conrad continued to help his family on the farm working the land and raising livestock. In 1944 he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in both the Philippines and Japan. Conrad was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned home and joined his brother, Erling, in the farming operation. After nine years of farming, Conrad sold the farm operation due to his allergy problems. He took a job in construction first with heavy equipment and later did the bookkeeping. His career path took him to Chicago, Colorado, California and eventually Fairbanks, Alaska. In 1986, Conrad returned to Rock County to help care for his mother. Four years later he went to live in Florida. He stayed there year round until 2005 when he returned to live in Luverne, Minnesota. He continued wintering in Florida until 2012. On Thursday, January 17, 2013 Conrad died peacefully at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage at the age of 88 years, nine months and six days.

Conrad was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. He was raised in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Luverne where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a member of the American Legion, Rock County VFW, and 'The Last Man Club'. Conrad thoroughly enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and had set foot in every state with the exception of Vermont. Conrad met many people throughout his life’s travels and created many friendships along the way.

He will be lovingly remembered by his four siblings, Erling and his wife Doris Tofteland, Mabel Overgaard, Walter and his wife Ardith Tofteland, and Naomi and her husband Charles Wilson, all of Luverne; 15 nieces and nephews; and 25 great-nieces and great-nephews. Conrad was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Katrine Tofteland; a sister-in-law, Anna Tofteland; and a brother-in-law, Gordon Overgaard; and two great-nephews, Brian Conrad Tofteland and Bradley Tofteland.
