Obituary for Constance "Connie" Nash

CONSTANCE 'CONNIE' MARIE NASH was born south of Luverne, MN on January 3, 1924 to Arne and Esther (Isaacson) Overgaard. She was on a farm south of Luverne for a short time and then later to farms in the Lismore and Kenneth, Minnesota area. She attended school in Adrian, MN. During the winter months, Connie would live in Adrian with the Lund family where she did housework and childcare while attending school. Connie graduated from Adrian High School in 1941. She then pursued an education in business and attended the University of Minnesota. As World War II had begun, Connie’s education was cut short as she was needed back home on the farm as her brothers left for the service. On February 11, 1944 Connie married Carl Nash in the Post Chapel of Perrin U.S. Air Force Base northwest of Sherman, TX. The couple began their life and family together, living various places before returning to Luverne. Connie was a homemaker for many years. She worked on the side doing sewing and alterations and helped out with many parts of business, Nash Welding & Machine, including bookkeeping. Carl died suddenly on September 28, 1979. Connie had begun as a secretary to the Luverne High School and she continued in this capacity until her retirement on June 30, 1990. She then helped care for grandchildren and also remained active in her church and community. During these years she also enjoyed traveling; most notably including a heritage trip to Norway. In 2013 Connie moved to The Oaks apartments in Luverne. On Tuesday, July 11, 2017 she died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family at the Sanford Luverne Hospital at the age of 93 years, six months and eight days.

Connie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she volunteered on many committees and served in several capacities. Her faith was very important and she always remained very prayerful. She greatly loved her family and especially enjoyed her time later in life with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful caregiver and greatly appreciated the students at school that she watched over. Connie was a member of the Red Hat Society, Tourist Club and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She loved music, dancing, camping, bowling league and baking. Connie was very optimistic and loved people and the relationships that they brought to her life.

Connie is lovingly remembered by her five daughters, Cindy (Edward) Rosier of Gillette, WY, Linda (Steve) Bovendam of Brooten, MN, Kathy (Greg) Palm of Bemidji, MN, Becky Nash (Jeff Eng) of Bemidji, and Janet Nash (Preman Singh) of Sioux Falls, SD; 19 grandchildren, Cindy’s children: Daniel, Kari, Matthew, Benjamin, Jeremy, Edward II “Dude”, Linda’s daughter: Erin, Kathy’s daughter: Kristin, Becky’s children: Jess, Jessica, Kris, Jenny, Luke, Brandon, Matt, Emily, Janet’s children: Jennifer, Gregory, Christopher; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Esther (Del) Thue of Hastings, MN, Marlys Myers of Stuart, FL, and Ann Hansen of Beloit, WI; and other family and friends.
