Dale R. Hamann

DALE R. HAMANN was born on August 29, 1929 to August and Lela (Holmes) Hamann on the family farm in Rock County, Minnesota. He was baptized on December 15, 1929 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on July 4, 1943 all at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. Dale was raised on the farm and attended District 10 Country School through the eighth grade and then attended two years of school at Luverne High School. Dale then went to work full time on the farm.

On September 28, 1949 Dale was united in marriage to Mary Ann Swenson at St. John Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on his family’s farm. They remained together as close partners, working side-by-side and later purchasing the Hamann Family Century Farm, which had been in their family since 1891. Dale and Mary Ann took great pride in caring for their animals, buildings and equipment and being a steward to the land.

Mary Ann preceded Dale in death on September 24, 2005. On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, while at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Dale went to be with his Lord, and Savior.

Dale was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder for many years. He served as a member of the Rock County Rural Water Board. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his cats and dogs on the farm. He held a great love for his wife and their daughter. Dale held a passion for farming and humbly was a servant to the Lord.

Dale is lovingly survived by his daughter, Sonia Line and her husband R. John of Sioux Falls; beloved dog, Dolly; special family friend, Kathy Moe; nieces and nephews; and other family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; parents; and six siblings, Virgil Hamann, Elsie Hemme, Elmer Hamann; Francis Sievert, Irene Hemme and Alice Schmuck.
