He attended school in Holland and continued his education in Pipestone, Minnesota. After his graduation from Pipestone High School in 1951, he became employed by a local railroad. He also did flax hauling and sheep shearing. In January, 1954, he entered the United States Marines and served during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1956, he returned to Holland and continued his military service in the local National Guards. Following their marriage, Darvy worked for McGinty Electric and also John Van Scharrel at the Holland Lumber. In 1967, he enrolled in the meat cutting program at the Pipestone Vocational School. After completing this course, he started doing meat cutting for area residents. At this same time, he also began hauling mail and continued to do so until 2007. In October, 1983, when his sons opened the Tyler Locker, he started helping his sons at the locker. In November, 2010, he was forced to quit because of health problems. On Friday, July 15, 2011, Darvy was admitted to the Pipestone County Hospice House where he died on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the age of 77 years, eleven months and 24 days.
