Darvin "Darvy" Kor

DARVIN KOR...
was born to Harm and Verna (Meyer) Kor on August 25, 1933 on the family farm in Fountain Prairie Township, near Holland, Minnesota where he was raised. He attended school in Holland and continued his education in Pipestone, Minnesota. After his graduation from Pipestone High School in 1951, he became employed by a local railroad. He also did flax hauling and sheep shearing. In January, 1954, he entered the United States Marines and served during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1956, he returned to Holland and continued his military service in the local National Guards. On January 12, 1958, he was united in marriage to Margret Zingelman at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland. Following their marriage, Darvy worked for McGinty Electric and also John Van Scharrel at the Holland Lumber. In 1967, he enrolled in the meat cutting program at the Pipestone Vocational School. After completing this course, he started doing meat cutting for area residents. At this same time, he also began hauling mail and continued to do so until 2007. In October, 1983, when his sons opened the Tyler Locker, he started helping his sons at the locker. In November, 2010, he was forced to quit because of health problems. On Friday, July 15, 2011, Darvy was admitted to the Pipestone County Hospice House where he died on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the age of 77 years, eleven months and 24 days.

Darvy was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Holland. He was also a member of the Earl Gruis American Legion Post 534 in Holland. From the time of his youth, he thoroughly enjoyed playing fastpitch softball as the pitcher until 1978. Then, in 1978, he began coaching fastpitch softball and continued to do this through 2006. From 1961 to 1972, he enjoyed league bowling; and from 1978 to 2010, he enjoyed shooting pool. He also liked deer hunting, gardening, and playing cards, especially pepper. Most of all, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Margret Kor of Holland, Minnesota; four children, Cindy DeZeeuw and her husband Bob, Randy Kor and his wife Mary, Greg Kor, and Brad Kor and his wife Jo, all of Holland, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Darlene Sportel of Holland, Minnesota; and his mother-in-law, Gertrude Zingelman of Holland, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harm and Verna Kor; two brothers, Delbert “Moose” Kor and Donald “Slim” Kor; his father-in-law, Tommy Zingelman; his brother-in-law, Sparky Sportel and his two nephews.
