David A. Lorenzen

DAVID ALLEN LORENZEN was born on February 26, 1949 to Elvin and Betty (Schmidt) Lorenzen in Luverne, Minnesota. He was baptized on June 12, 1949 at the United Methodist Church in Lake Benton, Minnesota. He received his confirmation on June 2, 1963 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, Minnesota. David graduated from Luverne High School in 1967. David played college basketball and graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1971. He taught physical education and health at high schools in Biwabik and Lakefield, Minnesota, both of which he also held the position of head boys basketball coach. David had the opportunity to play basketball in Europe and upon his return, moved to Kenneth, Minnesota in 1975 where he worked for Moorman’s Feed and farmed. David later moved to Hardwick, Minnesota.

On Sunday, October 6, 2019, David died peacefully at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne at the age of 70 years, 7 months, and 10 days.

David was a member and past elder of Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. This is where on August 26, 2001, he made his profession of faith. David loved the game of basketball and throughout his younger years he played on countless ball teams. He enjoyed the horses and cattle that he raised and riding around the countryside checking out the crops and visiting with everyone along the way. He made friends wherever he went. David served on his township board and delivered the Luverne Announcer for many years.

Survivors include his daughters, Shawn Lorenzen of Omaha, Nebraska, Heather VanArsdale of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Naomi (Aric) Gordon of Lakefield, Minnesota; three sets of twin grandchildren, Derek and Emily Pederson, Owen and Audra VanArsdale, and Evan and Avah VanArsdale; a sister, Dianne (Rodger) Ossenfort of Luverne; and two nephews, Matthew (Shawn) Ossenfort of LaVista, Nebraska and Monti (Shannon) Ossenfort of Foxborough, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Betty Lorenzen.
