David Robert Hoss

April 12, 1954 — March 30, 2022

DAVID ROBERT HOSS, was born April 12, 1954 in Madison, South Dakota to Joseph and Doris (Chase) Hoss. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa where he was baptized in the Christian faith and attended school. In 1972, David met the love of his life, Becky Stough and six weeks later, they were married in Windom, Minnesota. They built a life together over the next fifty years, raising four children in the process. The couple moved several times in their early relationship, starting near Dundee, Minnesota then to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. When David’s boss passed away, David brought his family to Estherville, Iowa to work for his father-in-law, where he picked up his love for carpentry and honed his craft. In 1976, the family moved to Port Lavaca, Texas, where they resided for nine years. When David was offered a position working for Sunstar, the family moved to Holland, Minnesota. David remained working as an Oil Warehouse Manager for the next 34 years as the company changed from Sunstar to Hyde Oil and finally Growmark Lubricants. In 2004 David and Becky relocated to Pipestone, and on August 30, 2019, David retired. On March 30, 2022, while in his home surrounded by his beloved family, David went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 67 years, 11 months, and 18 days.

David was very proud of his work and his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he could frequently be heard talking about them. He even unofficially adopted kids Becky babysat as extra grandchildren. Always the hard worker, David would often mow lawns for his friends and was always ready to lend a hand to his friends and family. He enjoyed working with wood and was very skilled in his craft. When he wasn’t working, he could be found listening to old country music or cheering on his favorite football team, the Cowboys, but never the Vikings. David will be deeply missed and always be remembered as a dedicated father, a loving husband, a hard working manager, and a family man.

David is survived by his loving wife, Becky Hoss of Pipestone; his children, Lance (Tanya) Hoss of Hinkley, Minnesota, Travis (Naomi) Hoss of Pipestone, Christopher (Amanda) Hoss of Pipestone, Savannah (Matthew) Lange of Pipestone, and step-son Todd (Kelli) Allen of Surprise, Arizona; grandchildren, Kristin Hoss, Tate Post, Sierra (Isaac) LaLond, Landin (Kelsey) Hoss, Jayden Hoss, Noah Gearhart, Zachary Hoss, Emma Hoss, Mackenzie Lange, Mackalya Lange, Ethan Hoss, Mackendra Lange, and Chase Allen; great-grandchildren, Preslei Stehle, and Christopher Stehle; siblings, Rose (Kenny) VandenBosch of Dundee, Gary (Bev) Hoss of Heron Lake, Minnesota, Ray (Kelly) Hoss of Woodstock, Minnesota, and Mike (Sheri) Hoss of Kenneth, Minnesota; as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Doris Hoss, as well as six siblings.
