Obituary for DeVona Elaine Oehlerts

DeVona Elaine Oehlerts was born November 13, 1920 to Ted and Anna (Schmuck) Sievert in Vienna Township, Rock County, Minnesota. At a young age she moved with her family to a farm west of Hardwick, Minnesota. She attended School District 49 through the 8th grade. When she was 18 years old, DeVona moved to Luverne, Minnesota. On October 28, 1945 she married Herbert Oehlerts in her parent's home near Hardwick. The couple began their life together on a farm by Magnolia, Minnesota and later moved to a farm near Hardwick in 1948. A year later they moved to a farm by Beaver Creek, Minnesota and there they lived, worked the land and raised their family. DeVona kept busy raising their six children and helping Herbert. She and Herbert loved traveling and visiting family and friends; their many travels took them around the world. Herbert passed away on January 7, 2004 and DeVona remained on the farm. In January 2013 she moved to the Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne, where on Saturday, September 28, 2013 she died peacefully at the age of 92 years.

DeVona was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne, where she was baptized and confirmed. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, going fishing and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She loved spending time with her family, crocheting and playing cards.

DeVona will be lovingly remembered by her children, Larry and his wife Myrna Oehlerts of Los Angeles, CA, Sandy Boles of Paducah, KY, Shirley Rinell, and Dennis and his wife, Vania Oehlerts all of Littleton, CO, Vickie and her husband Gerry Stamm of Tustin, CA, and Kevin and his wife Donna Oehlerts of Luverne, MN; two brothers, Harland (Joy) Sievert of St. Paul, MN and Orland (Sue) Sievert of Mitchellville, IA; sister-in-law, Mae Jean Oehlerts of Canton, South Dakota; 16 grandchildren; many step-grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; her parents, Ted and Anna; one sister, Nelva (Virgil) Ahrendt; and three brothers, Elmer (Arlene) Sievert, Elroy Sievert, and Harvey (Francis) Sievert; and son-in-law Bill Boles.
