Deanene Brooks Greer

January 20, 1949 — May 17, 2020

DEANENE BROOKS GREER was born on January 20, 1949 to Walker and Florence (Moser) Greer in Techikawa, Japan. Her father served in the United States military at the time and her family moved around based on his service orders. Deanene enjoyed her time living abroad, which included a short time living in England. She particularly loved time spent in Paris and loved fashion as a teenager. The family was later transferred to Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota and Deanene graduated from Douglas High School in 1967. During high school, Deanene met Tracy Birdsey her senior year and the two began dating. A short time later, the couple eloped and on September 16, 1967, celebrated their marriage at the Baptist Church in Luverne, Minnesota. They then moved to Mankato, Minnesota, where they furthered their education. The couple was blessed with three children, Ben, Brook and Matt. In the early 80s the family moved to Texas to be closer to Deanene's father. They first lived in and around Houston and then San Antonio. Though she and Tracy later divorced, they remained close throughout their lives, sharing many good times until his passing late last year.

Deanene worked many jobs throughout her adult life. In the early years of her marriage, she worked as a bank teller, and later as an interior decorator. In San Antonio, Deanene took a job at Northern Hills Country Club as the Membership Secretary, and then worked at Marriott Hotel in planning and hosting events which she held for many years. Deanene went to work for American Airlines, she said this was her “retirement job”, which she loved. She retired as a Senior Stewardess in 2014. In 2018, she returned to Luverne to be closer to her daughter, Brook. On Sunday, May 17, 2020, Deanene died peacefully in her home at the age of 71 years, three months and 27 days.

Deanene was a member of Living Rock Church. She enjoyed attending church and participating in Bible study. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and loved her grandchildren. She was very proud of each of her children and grandchildren.

Deanene will be remembered by her three children, Benjamin Birdsey of Merrimack, NH, Brook (Kevin) Barnhart of Luverne, and Matthew Birdsey from “on the road, USA”. Grandchildren, Megan Westrum, and Kameron Keene; and two siblings, Shara (Jon) Billheimer of Greeley, Colorado and David (Kim) Greer of Pipe Creek, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; and former husband, Tracy Birdsey (November 7, 2019).
