Obituary for Doris E. Stenerson

DORIS ELAINE THOMPSON was born February 16, 1924 in Lyon County, Minnesota to Olaf and Emma Irene (Peterson) Thompson. She was baptized as an infant in Lyon County and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1942. Doris married Harvey Stenerson on February 16, 1943 at Hope Lutheran parsonage in Minneota, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with six children and 58 years of life together. The couple farmed in Nordland Township until the fall of 1946, when they moved to Russell, Minnesota. Doris was a housewife while Harvey worked at the County Co-op. They started the Gambles Store in Russell in November 1962. After selling the store, they managed the Trident Apartments in Marshall until moving to Tyler, Minnesota in 1994. Doris and Harvey spent summers collecting fees for the Corps of Engineers at campsites in South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Idaho. They spent a few winters in Phoenix, Arizona. Harvey preceded her in death on February 24, 2001. After a courageous battle with cancer, Doris died at Tyler Healthcare Center on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 6 days.

Doris was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Russell. She loved playing cards (her game was pinochle) and baking, and especially spending time with her family. She was a wonderful mom and grandma.

Doris is lovingly remembered by her children, Jerry of Russell, MN, Ron (and Sharon) of Tyler, MN, Perry (and special friend Brenda) of Fairmont, MN, and Melanie (and Dick) Williams of Russell, MN; six grandchildren, Denise Erwin, Jeff (Rachel) Stenerson, Lyle (Marilyn) Williams, Scott (Terri) Williams, Wendy (Bob) Lustfield, and Missy (Jason) Janssen; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth Ann (Darrel) Young of Surprise, AZ, Beverly (Doug) Anderson of Nacogdoches, TX, and Franklin (Adeline) Thompson of Glendale, AZ; special friend and companion Dick Pinckney of Tyler, MN; and many other relatives and friends.
