Dorothy A. Rodman

DOROTHY ANN RODMAN was born August 23, 1916 to parents John and Sophie (Dilger) Dahl in St Paul, Minnesota where she was raised and attended school. She was baptized and confirmed at Church of Reformation in St Paul. Following graduation from high school in 1934, she worked at Gordon Ferguson Furs and sold life insurance at Hartford Insurance.

On October 12, 1940, she married WH Rod “Shorty” Rodman in St Paul. The couple moved to Jamestown, North Dakota where Rod worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company. In 1942, Rod enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, while Dorothy returned to Minneapolis to work at the Federal Reserve. When Rod was reassigned to the states in 1944, they lived in Hastings, Nebraska until his discharge in 1945. The couple then moved to Worthington, Minnesota and lived there until making their home in Luverne, Minnesota in December, 1955. Dorothy worked at the First National Bank insurance agency for many years. Following her retirement in 1976, she and Rod spent winters traveling to Arizona and California in their Airstream and fifth wheel travel trailers. Following an illness in 1995, Rod moved to the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne and Dorothy moved from their north Freeman home to the Camelot Condos. In 2012, she moved to the Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown Home where the staff took loving care of her until her death on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the age of 98 years, 3 months and 14 days.

Dorothy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was involved in many groups and activities. She enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, cooking and reading. She also enjoyed an occasional evening cocktail or wine.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Charles (Cindy) Rodman of Eden Prairie, MN; daughter-in-law, Carol Rodman of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Paula (Brian) Charchenko of Victoria, MN, Tom Rodman (Leslie Krebsbach) of Eden Prairie, Kristine (Dave) Brownlee of San Diego and Josh (Ashley) Rodman of Haymarket, VA; nine great grandchildren, Nikolai, Briar, Erik and Ryker Charchenko, Austin Krebsbach, Rachel, Sara and Michael Brownlee and Hendrix Rodman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rod “Shorty” Rodman; son, John; and her parents.

Memorials may be directed to Luverne Dollars for Scholars, Mary Jane Brown Home or Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne.
