Dorothy Anna Stangeland

DOROTHY ANNA STANGELAND was born to William and Wilhelmine “Minnie” (Lietzau) Beack on December 14, 1924 in Hector Township, Minnesota and was raised on the family farm in Buffalo Lake. She attended country school for six years and then attended Buffalo Lake High School. After her graduation in 1943, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended Minneapolis Business College for one year. Upon completion of her education, she moved back to Buffalo Lake where she was a teller at the Buffalo Lake Bank. On March 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Silas Elmer Stangeland at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. Following their marriage, they resided in Pipestone, Minnesota and she became employed as a teller at First National Bank. In 1966, they moved to the Stangeland Family Farm in Eden Township. After 37 years of working at the bank, she began working in housekeeping at the Pipestone County Medical Center for six months and then a clerk at Food and Fuel. In 1991, she became employed as the Good Samaritan Volunteer Coordinator. On November 4, 2007, Silas preceded her in death. After his death, she continued living on the farm and working, retiring in 2012. In October, 2014, she moved to Ridgeview Estates in Pipestone. On Tuesday, April 3, 2018, she entered the Pipestone County Hospice House where she died on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the age of 93 years, three months and 24 days.

Dorothy was baptized on January 4, 1925 and confirmed on May 14, 1939 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. After Sy and Dorothy were married they became members of the Lutheran Church in Ihlen until its closing. The couple then transferred their membership to the First Lutheran Church in Pipestone, Minnesota. Sy and Dorothy then became charter members of Christ the King Free Lutheran Church in Pipestone. They then moved their membership to Messiah Lutheran Church where she was active in circle and served as the treasurer of the women’s group. Sy and Dorothy loved dancing in their younger years. Dorothy enjoyed many hobbies, including playing cards, reading, fishing, bowling and walking. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Jackson, Wyoming and Hawaii.

She is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Craig Stangeland and his wife JoAnn and Jon Stangeland and his wife Mary, both of Pipestone, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Ted (Jennifer Odens) Stangeland, Heather Stangeland, Don Stangeland, Brad (Layne) Stangeland and Jenny (Jared Goebel) Stangeland; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua and Sy Stangeland, Hunter St Aubin, Hailey and Arayah Goebel, Austyn Stangeland, and Allison Odens; one sister, Eunice Zingler of Fairmont, Minnesota; and many other loving friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sy Stangeland; her parents; one sister, Elenora Schnickles; one brother, Alvin Beack; three brothers-in-law, Murray Zingler, Matthew Schnickles, and Ray Reynolds; three sisters-in-law, Irene Hass, Lillie Reynolds and Geneva Ring; and numerous relatives.
