Dwight W. Gangestad

September 16, 1948 — October 4, 2020

DWIGHT WILLIAM GANGESTAD was born on September 16, 1948 to Emmett and Lucille (Kasemodel) Gangestad in Rock County, Minnesota where he lived his entire life. He attended grade school in Hardwick, spent some time at country school and then went to Luverne Public School where he graduated in 1968 from Luverne High School. He enjoyed staying active in wrestling throughout his school years. Following schooling, Dwight continued to help his dad in the farming operation. He also helped occasionally at the Blue Mound Inn and Catering where he met the love of his life, Marcia Claussen. The couple was united in marriage on February 24, 1996. He liked to say that this union brought him a ready-made family and he couldn’t love his family more. His stepchildren were his children. His heart was filled with joy when the grandkids were born. He also loved having his nephews, niece and cousins around. Dwight was passionate about farming and took great pride in being at steward of the land he farmed and livestock he raised. In 1998, Dwight retired farming and went into driving truck full-time. In February of 2018 he was involved in a trucking accident which forced him into retirement. Dwight went to live at the Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown Home in October 2019. On October 4, 2020, Dwight died peacefully at the age of 72 years and 18 days.

Dwight was a former active member of Blue Mound Lutheran Church and Kenneth Lutheran Church. He was currently a member at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne where he had served as a deacon and an usher. He enjoyed collecting antique farming equipment. Dwight will be remembered as a kind and caring man who was always willing to help others, even if they were a stranger.

Dwight is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marcia of Luverne; children, Nikki (Howie) Stewart of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kristina (Andy) Bates of Las Vegas, Thonals “Tom” (Diane) Kanelos of Las Vegas, Erika (Jon) Menning of Luverne, and Kevin (Nicki) Hartz of Luverne; eight grandchildren, Cardell, Carllie, Devon, Trevor, Summer, Autumn, Jana, Myika and Brandon; five great-grandchildren, Kaylin, Aubree, Athena, Dominic and Oaklynn; his mom, Lucille Gangestad of Hills, Minnesota; siblings, Bonnie Carlson (Randy Kahl) of Rock Rapids, Iowa and Kelly (Gloria) Gangestad of Gillette, Wyoming; nephews, Jason Carlson and family, Jim Carlson and family, and Eric (Lacy) Gangestad and their son, Kaden; and a niece, Amber Gangestad.
